This is why I am less and less inclined to shop Ebay anymore.

Been on the look out for a really clean W124 wagon for the wife. Mechanicals don't scare, but body & int must be nice.

Hello. A few questions in order of importance. Is the rust spot on the front or rear fender? Just chipped paint or a bubble? Any rust or bubbles on the rockers, jack points, underside of doors, door sills, rear door, etc? Paint condition (swirls,scratches) I notice a pet barrier. What about scratched, torn or stained seats/carpet/panels? Smokers car? Any idea on cost to ship car to St. Louis? Appears you have a nice looking car in need of some serious and coslty maintenance. Not sure who this fellow is, but I see why he still has the car. What this clown didn't realize is that I was serious looker. Not losing any sleep over it...there are plenty of wagons out there!

Ebay bad. Seriously. Best way to find a good MB is to watch all the Craigslists within a 2-3 hour drive from you - check them daily and have patience. If you wait a few months, you'll find the right seller with the right car.

After reading his ebay listing, the first thing that entered my mind was he was a hot headed, annoying a-hole. That would have been enough for me to look elsewhere. You can usually get a good idea about the car by the way the owner writes the ad.

Sarcasim and hostility = Beat to hell car
Extreme BS and babble = Liar or dealer
Bad pictures = Hideing something or poor maintenance, perhaps just an idiot.
Erratic Description = Trying to cover-up something

Good pictures&complete description including steering, suspension, exhaust, engine, trans,...... = Check it out

Brief description and a few fair pictures = Woman owned or mechanically challenged male, maybe worth inquiring about.

Talks about being bullet proof or vegi conversion = dealer or mechanical/body problems

It's not what they say. It's what they don't say, or how they say it.
Your "Pal" is a perfect example.

You folks nailed it about Craigslist. I have scored some nice deals in the last 6 months or so. Everything from a lawnsweeper and wheel weights for my mower to a well maintained Saturn.

I'd like to know what shop is going to swap out a tranny for $150- $200 bucks. In my area a fluid/filter change is almost $150 bucks.
