Thumbs down Inside Account of U.S. Eavesdropping on Americans

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Story?id=5987804&page=1

Despite pledges by President George W. Bush and American intelligence officials to the contrary, hundreds of US citizens overseas have been eavesdropped on as they called friends and family back home, according to two former military intercept operators who worked at the giant National Security Agency (NSA) center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

1. The employees broke the rules by discussing what they heard among themselves, within their assigned duties. If their supervisors had been doing thier jobs they would have been reprimanded. Supervisors should get hauled in for a thorough ass-chewing.

2. Were these 2 techs cleared to talk outside of shop? If not, they better pray that there was actual illegality taking place. If not, then they are in extreme legal jeopardy.

3. Nice to see Jay Rockefeller has discovered oversight. He has been asleep at the switch for about 20 years.

Then there's this from the story:

"It was just always, that , you know, your job is not to question. Your job is to collect and pass on the information," Kinne said.

Some times, Kinne and Faulk said, the intercepts helped identify possible terror planning in Iraq and saved American lives.

"IED's were disarmed before they exploded, that people who were intending to harm US forces were captured ahead of time," Faulk said.

What do you think about the impact of this dope revealing that we have the ability to prevent attacks by eavesdropping? This stupid mofo is endangering soldier's lives.

Saw them on a nightly news show this past week. I'm glad someone is speaking up about what is going on.

Every .mil famility I've been in, there is a sticker on the phone that says "Use of this phone implies consent to monitoring" or something like that. If a soldier was having phone sex on a .mil phone, then he deserves to get his genitalia slapped.

...as do security tech's that blab about what they are doing.

During WWII my Dad, as a junior officer, read every scrap of personal mail written by his division on his ship. He'd tell sailors to rewrite portions of he'd cut stuff out. No doubt, he read a lot of stuff he'd prefer not to have read.

Like Angel said, if it's .mil (or .gov), you have NO EXPECTATION OF PRIVACY. Says so right there on my work computer every time I logon. If they had privacy, guess where bad guys would got to communicate?

^^^exactly in certain when I was in, if you were stationed at a certain theater of operation Ma and Pa could count on letters being opened before arrival, the return address and post mark was always the CONUS base...since that is where we were yada yada. I thought it was overkill and stupid at the time but hind sight being perfect I can now see how bad the reprecussions would be if someone called home and said hi dad I'm down here in Panama getting ready to pick up a General.....wait that did happen and the June Panama operation was canceled and the mark was tipped off, go figure.

Your in the Army they have the right to examine you ***** to see what you've been eating....live with it or get out.

That sounds kind of like what the lettercarrier did in Waco. Loose lips sink ships.
