Another computer problem thread

I have a HP laptop with Vista(I hate it) that is about 1 1/2 years old. Today I was using it and it just stut off and will not turn back on. The entire time I was using it it was plugged into the wall, so its not a power supply problem. I have removed the battery and all connections were clean. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get it running again? Thanks

also there is a DVD in the disk drive, if anyone knows how to get the try open please let me know, I need it ASAP.

Theres a little hole on the face of the drive. Take a straightened paper clip and push it into the hole... It should pop on out.

yeah I just got he disk out. I also pulled both 512MB memory boards out and I removed some other little board that had 2 wires plugged into it(a black and a grey wire). At first the black wire was loose but I may have pulled it loose by accident. The laptop still will not come on.

You gotta have memory in it for it to boot.

Put the memory sticks back in, and hook up that thing that sounds like an antenna for WiFi.

Plug it into an external monitor and see what happens...

What happened to your laptop is known as "HP laptop biting the dust" as a student IT tech at a college for the past 3 years I saw a great number of those HP laptops that just "suddenly died"........some of them didn't even "die all the way", they would power on the pretty lights on the top when you pressed power, and that is all, no drive spin up, no screen, nothing. Just some lights. Holding the power button did not turn said lights back off either, only unplugging the power and battery did.

the light the show that the battery charger is plugged in is the only light that will come on. Abosolutly nothing happens when I press and hold the power button.

Yes the memory sticks were put back in, I just removed them to try and reset it.

Is there any trick or something I can do, or is it junk?

Second thread today about an HP laptop biting the dust. Probably the power board. It's either warranty or boat anchor time.

Even though the unit was plugged in many will not work without a battery, have you checked the battery voltage?

79Mercy 10-13-2008 08:32 PM

no I haven't checked the battery voltage.

Sony Vaio's used to go up in smoke due to a overheat of the system due to poor air circulation design. You thought you smelled something burning and then the sucker died.

Sony would only talk to you if it was in warranty, anything else and you had a new doorstop.

Its plugged into the wall and the charge light is on, doesn't that mean its getting voltage. BTW, I was watching a DVD when this happend.

okay, i finally remembered to bring home my multimeter.

There are 6 terminals on the battery. Which ones do I use to test it?

79Mercy 10-15-2008 07:02 PM

I tried ever combo on the 6 terminals, the most I could find was .43V. I also tried on the batery charger and got .43 at the most.
