Going in to deal with the sleaze

Here's the story.

A girl I've been talking to in my photography class( my fav class of all time!) has a car she bought from one of those "buy here pay here" places a month ago. Its a late 90's Mitsubish Eclipse 5 speed with the 2.0 liter(I am guessing since I've never seen the engine)

She calls me on friday telling me her car died in traffic and she had to push it into a gas station. I tell her it could be the battery since that is a common failure I guess. Well, the charging system, ya know alternator takes a crap and the ignition system is running off of battery. So she gets the car taken to the dealership that has a "garage" they tell her it was just a loose terminal. She gets in the car and drives off and it dies again. She's freaking out and the car sits at a gas station until today. They brought it back to the dealership and they look it over and tell her the engine siezed.

She calls me in tears freaking out and everything. I tell her to calm down and call me back when she is. She calls me back and I ask her what did they say.

She told me that the "mechanic" said there was no oil in it and the mech said thats why it seized. I told her to go pull the dipstick out and tell me what she sees. She pulled it out and said there was black fluid on it, clearly some form of oil. The mechanic had also told her it could have "burned off". Kacie had told me she noted no drops of oil in her parking spot at home or anywhere she parked a lot or a smokey exhaust.

Kacie missed photography class, had no way of getting home, the dealership wouldn't even be considerate to a customer of theirs and give her a ride to her home 15 minutes down the road.

get this, they told her they could fix it. They sat down and the sales man asked how much she could put down as a down payment ( I chit you not!!!). Thats not fixing anything.

So, Wednesday Eagle-co94 and I are going down to this place since it's local to use somewhat and are going to get this little issue resolved. I don't take kindly to sleaze balls giving my friends the run around. Now I may seem like the semi quiet type but when someone I know is getting screwed over you don't want to know what I'll do.

I'll update you guys...

Be careful.........long while back a old neighbor of mine in Staten Island was being ripped off by a local gas station on a used car deal. He asked me to accompany him and I went to with him to take a look, needless to say the car was junk and I told him about it. The garage guy got downright pissed and attacked me with a tire iron. I managed to escape that and vowed to be extra careful next time.

technically it is illegal to record a conversation without consent. My phone will record but I think in 5 minute spurts.

Don't you worry we'll be safe.

I'm getting a picture of that Verizon commercial where the guys "people" are all standing there with him. This is great!

Better take a tire iron with you, Joe. Be prepared . . . . like Gurkha said.

Your best bet, which you already know is to stick to the facts and let the service rep,or manager do the volunteering until such time as You,as her agent and friend inspect the car and decide otherwise, then he's hung on his own words. You've described this as a "dealership"so obviously they won't try any strong-arm ***** with a determined guy.
Sounds like a typical hosing they give to helpless young gals.

...and if the engine cranks at a reasonably normal speed while being jumped, even if it doesn't start, the "engine seized" diagnosis becomes very suspect.

PS: Tell her to change the oil...

used cars have like 30 days if the mileage is over 100k.

so I think she is a little over that but we'll see after we're done with these jerks

ok well looks like I wont have to go in and fix this issue. Her parents are going in tomorrow so it looks like I wont have to. Which is cool since they are her parents and it frees up the time I had originally planned to go with eagle co and pull a car from a junkyard
