How to Stretch Your $125K Paycheck

First, get elected governor of some northern state: $125,000 per year
Get $43,500 for travel and lodging for spouse and family
Get $17,000 for spending time in your own home.

H&R Block May Have to Explain

Get a national political party to loan you $150,000 in clothes, accessories, hairstyling and makeup.

America, the land of opportunity!

The Governor of a state is using H&R Block for income tax services?
Prolly a friend who's another Hockey mom part time tax preparer.

(BTW, ever read Warren Burger's will? For the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court to have such an amateurish will is just laughable.)

She was reimbursed, that means she already paid her taxes on her $125k and the state gave her back $43.5k for her family's travel. Technically I don't see the problem. H&R Block doesn't know about state policy on travel reimbursement. Try calling your state agency in charge of these things, if you can find the phone number, or even the name of the department, and ask.

I can easily see Todd getting caught up in some lavish spending. Living in DC, it will require a lot of traveling and logistics for moose hunting, iditarods, and snowmobiles.

Good show, Kuan. The problem is that Rupert Murdoch bought the WSJ and has turned it into a tabloid.

As far condescending H&R Block goes, I guess you'd have to go spend some time in Alaska to sample the availability of qualified tax professionals located in the State. How smart would it be to get a gunslinger from Wilmington to prepare a $125K return (taking out her husbands part)? I had the pleasure to be guided on a duck hunt by a PhD superintendent of schools for a huge district there who grew his own dope in his floating house

In addition, I have sent fairly wealthy clients with sloppy books to H&R and similar outfits when my tax atty refused to sign creative returns. I guess with volume they can afford to spread the liability

Invest it at 10% and have another 125,000 in under 10 years.

Any number of subscription agreements can be found yielding much higher rates, but you have to be willing to roll the dice....

I think she probably uses a portion of the $125K (after taxes) to live on, but I could be wrong.

It costs less to live when you get per-diem for living in your own house.

Does it cost the state less than paying to run the 'occupied' governor's residence and offices 800 miles away? Just curious. (my governor's chef is paid over $100K in a poorer state than AK--didn't she get rid of the chef?)

I got in kind of late last night, but thought I caught on the news that she was paying that $17K back anyway. I wouldn't, but I thought I saw that.
