Dead Heat in the Arizona Sun

2 Points Separate Candidates in Latest AZ Polls

Population growth, and an influx of both young and Hispanic residents, is shifting the balance of power in the state, pollsters say. From now on, that power is likely to be held by voters calling themselves independent — not Republican or Democrat.

Not only that, but McCain has only recently converted to conservative principles. His base in AZ knows it has been cuckolded for years, but can do nothing about it. It's not unusual for a candidate to lose his home State. Al Gore lost Tenn. in 00...

Now with worker documentation laws on the books, and the laws starting to be enforced against illegal aliens working here. Maybe we Arizonans have curbed the tide of tax payer drains. That will also increase the balance more to what Arizona has always been, Republican. No we aren't wild about McCain, he's always been a closet Democrat. That just doesn't fly with us Arizonans... (Obamunism is however worse!)

If you are a democrat like Gore from a pretty conservative, tobacco growing state as a Senator you have to represent the local interests.

As a democrat running on a national stage you cannot be pro tobacco. It is no surprise that Gore lost Tennessee.

If you are from a state that is kindof average (perhaps north Dakota) and you can run similarly to what you always ran in your local state then you can win your own state.

So it all depends on your situation.
