Furniture Advice
I picked up a Brandrud chair today for $4, and it appears to be missing it's legs. I am trying to find one online so I can get an Idea of what it is supposed to have. Now what should I do, go the cheap route, and throw on what I can find, or try and find the correct kind of legs. Keep in mind that Brandrud is now owned by Herman Miller, so it is a high end piece.

Brandrud?
Is Brandrud a designer or a manufacturer? I've never heard that name before. Do you have a picture?

I slept in a "Cascade Slumber" Brandrud chair when each of my kids were born. They have them in all the rooms at our hospital.

I have an Eames chair and an Aeron at my desk, but that Branbrud didn't do much for me.

It wasn't very comfortable either. I thought the mechanism that converted it into a bed was pretty cool though.

I will try and get a picture up, this one is somewhat comfortable. I can't find this one on the Brandrud site, but I think it is much older. I am just going to modify it some, and make some off the shelf legs look correct on it.

Sorry for the hijack, but I sure learned my lesson on throwing out old chairs last week: Friday was D-Day for my wife to donate her quota of crap to the Junior League thrift store. I recently cleaned out a unit of mine that I use to store files, but also had some old furniture in it as well. I took two chairs with foot stools that had belonged to a college room mate of mine to the thrift store, that I have carried around for years from place to place. An architect was volunteering at the thrift store told me they were "Aalto" bentwood chairs from the '40s. Now that I have googled, I am glad they didn't get sold for $12 apiece.

Now I am on full guilt trip mode--he wants to buy the chairs. He could have screwed me and bought them for $12 (stuff is pre-priced) apiece if he had not pointed out to me what I had. However, if I had ever been at his house, I would have been a little upset had I seen them there and then learned what I had. Going to sleep on it. |

Ahh, now a contribution instead of an anecdote Twer it me, and I planned on using the chair, I would put on whatever legs look/feel good height wise to you. If the legs look like, but aren't the original legs, the chair is worth no more than it is without any legs (I was told this about the webbing/cushions on my chairs, and it is a pretty good rule of thumb on most antiques) |

Probably had legs that integrated into arms like this one...
