Also used for those silly 195s on 9" wide wheels. Darwin award contender. Sixto 87 300D |

There are lots of those videos on YouTube. The best ones are the ones done with the tire still on the vehicle. I think it's a very useful method since I have struggled many times to set a bead. Kuan posted a thread on the topic a year or so ago which is where I first learned about it.

I may try that the next time my riding mower or wheel barrow tire breaks the bead. So far I've relied on the rope trick with high air pressure.

It's easier (but not as fun) to simply use a ratchet strap around the perimeter of the tire...

That doesnt always work though. I've actually used this method at work quite a few times with good success. Ever since the new ML's came out, the 17" continental tires are what most people buy as replacements since theyre the cheapest, but unfortunatly not easy to get the beads to seat.

I was wheeling with friends in high school, and one of them managed to get the bead on one of his tires unseated.
He did this trick, and voila, back wheeling again. Top Gear also did it on their winter special.

Worked when I was in Iceland, and I tried it here too. Works great. There are no tire places on the glaciers.
