when to use rear the fog light?

The rear fog light has it's own switch position. Under what conditions do they use/not use the rear fog light in Europe?

I use it when it's foggy out, so the people behind me might be able to spot me sooner. I mostly use it during heavy downpours, as using your Hazard flashers is illegal (although admittedly, it does make it easier to spot the car infront of you).

In America? Never.

Americans don't know what a rear foglight is. Everyone will just flash you and flip you off thinking your brake lights are stuck on or you're riding the pedal.

Just last week I was following another Benz in early morning fog. They had thier fog light on. It worked remarkably well. The car would be invisible because of the fog, but the light could be seen clearly.

I use mine in fog, and when people follow too close.

Not true - we in Texas have monster rain storms in which it's very hard to see the cars in front of you on the highway. I always used my rear fog for those situations and I thought it worked very well.

people here are clueless, had a car in last week the guy was complainig that he had a brake light out, apparently he would pull out the know and turn on the rear as well, his friend was behind him and told him he had a brake light out, i though it funny that the guy did not notice the other lights coming on and that one never did.

I am wondering, does the 1986-91 W126 have the rear fog lamps?

I think the switch is there, but the light and its socket are not.

But as others posted, people do think you are riding your brakes and you have one bulb out.

I followed a Volvo one foggy morning, and the rear fog light was on...I think only other Euro-vehicle owners probably knew what it was...

Mine didn't come prewired, but at least the lens is there in the tail light. Had to add the socket.

I use them in extreme rain or blizzard conditions, or dense fog. When I can't easily see the parking lights of the car in front of me I switch it on.

Sorry to derail the derailment but what are the rules/laws in Europe regarding use of the rear fog light? If anyone knows. I mean the fact that you can illuminate the front fog lights without the rear fog light suggests there are conditions under which you wouldn't illuminate the rear fog light.

They use it in fog only. In fact you might get a ticket if you use them when it's not foggy.

I notice this a lot here. Many drive with their fog lights on even in clear dusk, just because it looks "cool".

Ps. heavy rainfall or snow storms or a likewise reduced visiblity will be a legitimate situation to use the fog lights.
