The Bowline on a Bite still gets me every time and it's not even that complicated. I always forget to bring the loop all the way around in the final step.

I'm always amazed at how few boating people know the basics such as a clove hitch, half hitch, bowline or even how to tie up to a cleat. I suppose a granny knot for all applications if fine until they run into the instance that they'd really like to be able to get that knot untied either in a hurry, without losing a finger or without using a fid (or even better a screwdriver ) while rocking around.

I've lost all of my knot-tying abilities. I was a boy scout a long time ago and could tie all kinds of knots.

Dad is a knot-a-holic and he's forgotten more about knots than most of us will ever know...I, on the other hand, according to him am unteachable. I only know about three knots including the infamous 'hatchet knot.'

I am eternally grateful to the neighbor who taught me the bowline when I was about 12 years old. What a great knot. I use it all the time.

The bowline, the square knot, and the half-hitch are the only knots most people will ever need.

Oh, I've seen dum basses with the line between their legs trying to force the screwdriver through the knot that has had 15,000 lbs. of force applied to it and is now fused together. Seems like a sure-fire way to hurt yourself in a baaaaaad way!

When I got my advanced diving certification, they wanted me to tie a knot connecting a rope to an object on the bottom and it had to be a friggin' bowline. So, not only am I in an unusual position, hovering under water, I'm also tying a knot that I've just learned. If I ever have to do it again for real, I'm just tying a square knot and calling it done!

Bowline, half hitch, cleat hitch, figure 8, fishermans knot, and a couple other fishing knots I forget the names off.

The draging bowline is my favorite!

No one knows how to tie a proper cleat hitch, drives me nuts walking the docks sometimes.

I see weird things like this:

WTF?

I like the family of 8's.

If you can't tie a knot, tie a lot.
