should I entertain eBay buyer in Singapore?

The high bidder for an item I listed on eBay has a confirmed address in Singapore. He has positive eBay feedback including purchases from sellers in the US. My listing stipulates shipping to US only. The item has a power supply which I can't assure will work outside the US. For some odd reason all bidders are from outside the US so I can't avail of a second chance offer to other bidders.

Should I offer to send the item if the buyer covers all shipping costs or am I opening the door to headaches? The eBay answer center, as unofficial as it is, says I can cancel the bid before the auction ends - too late - or I can refund payment - I didn't send an invoice - and file an unpaid item claim after X days. I didn't read anything about feedback exposure.

You are within your right to refuse bids from out of the U.S. if your auction specifically states such. You can cancel your auction for the same reason if the only bids are from other areas of the globe.

However, it is obvious that the bidders don't seem to care about the 220v vs 120V issue, so you may want to shoot an e-mail to the highest bidder regarding shipping costs abroad. Keep eBay in the loop on this one, as they can guide you on the best way to deal with this issue. Nevertheless, don't ship anything until you receive funds FIRST!

I have dealt with shipping items to foriegn countries. Both from E-Bay sales and non-ebay sales. I have never had a problem. I have shipped to Sweden, England, Belguim, Argentinia, Austrails and Thialand.
There are some countries that some E-Bay sellers won't ship to, Italy, Uraguay and probably African countries. I usually end up shipping by US postal service, as being the least expensive. I give the choice of Parcel post, Priority Mail and the next up from there. Parcel post is the least expensive, but no insurance. Priority Mail has insurance and maybe tracking. Its about 50% more though. I take the stance that its the buyer luck if they don't take insurance. I haven't had any problems 'yet' in that packages didn't get there or damages. I would double box any items.

There is also a check box that you can activate when building your auction to not allow people to bid that are registered with Ebay in areas you have not selected to ship to.

I say deliver the package in person and let them entertain you.

It would be a cool trip:

Closed at $15 and USPS says about $40 shipping. It's a tech item whose value drops by half daily. No one in the US bid on it at $0.99!

I shipped a $15 turnsignal lens to a guy in Malaysia with no problems. Took a while to get there, but it did. Shipping was either $30 or $40 (don't remember exactly).
Aside from the fact the guy was far away, and the shipping was expensive, the transaction was quite ordinary.

Having been from that unwashed armpit of the world (trying to be nice here), I can tell you it isn't a major issue. We have 2 or 3 prong receptacles but they have all kinds of adapters and transformers.

Entertain how? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Singapore

Prostitution in Singapore is legal but pimping and street prostitution are not. Licensed brothels operate in designated areas where mandatory health checks are required. Apart from legal licensed brothels, commercial sex workers can be found in many 'massage' or 'spa' establishments, which are situated all around the country. In recent years, a new genre of massage parlour has emerged in Singapore. Known as 'Tuina' outlets, these massage parlours typically employ scantily clad women from mainland China. For them, massage is just a pretext for the sexual services which are the main menu. Technically, sex in these massage parlours are illegal, with a jail term for the operator if anti-vice raids on the premises yields evidence of commercial sex going-ons. Yet, virtually everyone who visits such establishments are fully aware of the sexual services provided within, and are there precisely because of it.

On Oct 4, 2005, the Singapore government decided it may raise the minimum age for prostitutes from 16 to 18 to bring its laws in line with international standards.

You can't buy the same "delivery confirmation" service for a shipment to Singapore that you can for a domestic shipment.

There are USPS international services that provide on-line viewable proof of delivery, but they're relatively expen$ive, e.g. Express Mail International (which I used to ship a package to Singapore just a few weeks ago).

Wow Aklim, funny that the Singapore travel site didn't mention all that.

The closest they come is mentioning the Zoukout Festival.

This doesn't sound like the place you've described:

Now that's funny!

Seriously, I think eBay "support" is often next to useless - and sometimes worse than useless - in helping sellers with issues such as this. A much better source of information, IMHO, is the eBay discussion boards - Seller Central for general issues, and International Trading for, well, international trading issues. There are plenty of folks on those boards who have been there and done that, and are very willing to share the fruits of their experience.

I say go ahead and ship it as long as they pay all shipping and fees. They didn't read the auction and that's their fault. Many people refuse to ship overseas, which makes no sense to me as foreign bidders only help the process.

I've shipped to France, Germany, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Spain, Brazil, Singapore (a w123 console), Norway, and even the Ukraine! I've had NO problems with my foreign bidders...so far.
