G-D drivers and their brights

[RANT]

What is up with all the moronic drivers out there running with their brights on all the time. It used to be that you would have maybe one idiot in a while driving that way. You flash him your brights and they turn theirs off. Now it seems that every other car is running with their brights on. If you flash them, they just ignore you or honk the horn at you. It is getting so that I hate driving in the morning or after work. They seem to have no consideration for anybody else and just don't give a *****. Oh and what's up with the SUVs and pickups running enough lights for the Paris-Dakar rally? Most streets in my area have overhead lighting for cripes sake!

OK,now that the spots have left my eyes, I feel better

I'm with you. Most vehicles in my area are SUVs with the new SUPER BRIGHT lights. Even when they aren't on high, they are blinding. Then on top of that everybody keeps their fogs on ALL the time.

It's bad enough when it's cars with the bright lights, but trucks and SUVs have their lights at just the right height to sear your retinas. The trucks always seem to tail you so your interior looks light daylight and the rearview and side mirrors are reflector dishes. I have limo tint in my hatch window so it's not quite as bad as driving in the CD.

Thanks, I feel a little better now myself.

Sometimes, it's not that they have bright lights on, but improperly aimed lights. Not a lot of people know that you need your lights properly aimed to light up the road safely and not be a hazard to oncoming drivers.

It's illegal in California. I got written for it once, about a year ago.

Thats good to know.

It must not be illegal here, I was coming home earlier and it seemed like 2/3 of the vehicles I met had four lights buring. The suvs are the biggest offenders.

When one of them comes up behind me on the freeway I just gently slow down to 50. By the time I get to 50 they usually speed off down the road, and I speed back up. Gets rid of them every time.

I rented a 14' U-Haul last week and drove it to Davenport, IA., Orion, IL., then back to IA. and finally back to La Crosse...

The headlight on the driver's side was set too high...on low, I could see it shining right into the back of the head of the driver ahead of me...when there wasn't anyone in front, the beam barely scraped the road...

The headlight on the passenger's side was worse...the main part of the beam was aimed into the pavement about 50' in front of the truck.

When I got to Davenport, I stopped at Sears, bought a 4mm. socket and one of those palm-sized, circular 1/4" ratchets...then when it got just dark enough, I ran the truck up to the wall, backed it off about 15', then adjusted the LHL down and the RHL up to level...then I slowly backed the truck up to see the drop...it fell about 1"-2" ... I dropped the lamps down just a little more, then headed out into the night, back to La Crosse...near Moqueteka, IA., I got some gas and "fine tuned" the heights of the lamps once more...much more enjoyable and for the people out in front of me, a LOT LESS ANNOYING!!!!

When I dropped the truck off at U-Haul the next morning, their response was, "We only change the lamps, we don't drive 'em down the highway to see how they're aimed. But thanks anyways for doing that for us!"

Nobody knows how to adjust lamps and they don't care...I even had the pleabs at the Dealer5hit where I get the S-10 taken care of screw up my Drivers' Side Headlamp when they went to replace a marker-lamp in the fixture...the clowns didn't know how to remove the fixture from the front-clip brackets and they weren't about to ask their boss how to do it...I just happened to look out the window and saw the two cranking on the adjustment screw ... I'm like "WTF????" I ran out to the truck and asked them where the plane was that they were trying to land...then I took the marker lamp from the clown and had them both stand there while I showed them the two clips that loosens the fixture. I then removed it from the vehicle far enough to swap out the defective lamp...then I re-assembled the unit, then I took the truck back into the dealer$hit and showed the SA that I need to use his wall to straighten out my aim...thank GOD the clowns didn't crank on the other fixture...it made the re-alignment alot easier...

I think the ONLY TIME the offenders get the lights straightened out is either the driver knows how to do it and gets up enough gumption to make it right, or the cops get "dosed" by bad light and write up the dummy...

Other than that, I'm seriously considering caring a small hammer to "adjust" the more indignant violators...

Thanks! I thought it was maybe just me.
You know their lights are either mis-aimed, or on "high" when the headliner on the truck is illuminated.

When I lived in Ohio, I did a lot of TSD rallys and I used to have a car with about a million candle power of off road lights on the front. I would give people a "courtesy" flash of the regular brights and if they ignored me, a quick burst from the main beams got their attention.

As far as running fog light is concerned, I run mine all the time around here because the wide beam makes it easier to see deer hiding in the woods ready to spring out at a moments notice...

Oh, I am sure most of the offenders think the same thing. But in my experience running the fogs just illuminates the ground right in front of the vehicle and really provides nothing useful. If you pick up a deer in those lights and he is moving you will not have time to react anyway.

Mine just pick up the faint brown spots grazing by the side of the road and give me a chance to slow down and watch out.

I think alot more people have halogen or whatever fancy new super white bulbs and they are so bright, they look like high beams. I wish we had yellow lights like they do in France. They can be a lot stronger without blinding people.

I passed one last night. A minivan coming up the road had their brights on so I flicked mine twice... nothing. So screw em I flipped them on for the remaining 6 seconds it took for us to pass each other.

I do this all the time and many of them simply don't react. I don't have any idea where their minds are.

True. If you're the one-in-a-million that actually have yours aimed correctly, or you're not carring 4 dead bodies in the trunk of your car, good for you. What kills my retinas is the doophuses that have the lights on in the middle of the noon-day sun, with narry a cloud in the sky.
