Starting A Website: Hosting and Online Checkout?

I am starting a website for my Fuel Injection servicing business. So far I have purchased a URL and put together most of the site. I would like to have an online "shopping cart" to allow people to order directly from the site, but really have no idea how to do it. I know google has a check-out service, but what other alternatives should I look at?

Also, does anybody have any recommendations for a good hosting service?

Thank you for your advice.

BTW: I will be giving a 20% discount to MBshop members.

I've had this question floating around in my mind for a while as well. I hear some people have good luck with Microsofts hosting service but I don't know any more details.

I'll be interested in what everyone has to say here.

We don't use one, but a number of members in our trade organization have used myshoppingcart and have been reasonably happy.

Do you have a link? A quick google search did not turn it up.

Paypal has a checkout service. I'm not a huge paypal fan, but I will have to have a paypal account anyway, so I may end up using them.

I ended up using godaddy for my hosting. It was something like $5/month. The site should be up by tomorrow, I'll post a link for critiquing.

I like it for the most part - not too much "bling" - nice and straightforward.
Once I clicked on the "Injector" link, and all the pictures of the different kinds of injectors came up, I wanted to click on a picture, so I could see a larger image.
I also looked around for a method of contact. (I did find that, once I went back to the products page - at which point I had to laugh at myself for not noticing it the first time around) I thought at first to make it stand out more somehow (flashing, or loud color) but I think that just listing the email address again, would be fine.
You might also want to include a comment as to what the turn-around time is, or estimated process time. IOW, I don't know if you send me your injectors, while I send you mine, or if you rebuild my injectors. Do you buy used injectors? - if not, you might want to make another comment somewhere that at this time you are not buying used injectors...maybe in the future.

Geez..I sound like I am whining, but really, I like the site....few bells and whistles is good.

I created a website selling Wix filters www.fleetfilter.com about three years ago, and I did so with minimal investment ($600). To get started, I used Google's Merchant Svcs stuff because the site was easy to create, easy to host, and mainly because they had a built-in shopping cart. When sales justified the change, I went to a pro and had a full website built with normal shopping cart abilities. Apparently, there are a few companies out there who build the shopping cart side of the site and you just have to put their code on your pages (you pay for the code), but as a non-website-engineer, it sure seemed like it was way over my head to have that done properly by myself. Not to mention, I had no idea which companies made good shopping carts and which ones made crappy carts.

Which means, you're either stuck with Google's shopping cart (or similar), or you'll need to find someone who's created shopping carts before on websites and have him build the pages with the code. Since your site is just getting started, I'd recommend you start using Google or something like that - it's easy, efficient, and when done properly, it can look pretty good.

I just noticed the crush washers....if they are included with any of the kits, you might want to mention that.

Yes, I have 21 on the way, and a line on some 602 and 606 injectors, but I can always use more.
