Upscale: A word I dislike

Really. Upscale. Something rubs me wrong about that word.

Use the word Upscale in a sentence.

When I weighed my myself, the numbers went upscale.

When cleaning a fish, your knife must go upscale.

I dislike the word as well. When go into Upscale stores, everything is overpriced, and not to my liking. When I go to an upscale neighborhood, a lot of times I see overpriced houses with no design quality and a lot of Bling. When I go to an Upscale eatery, I see overpriced food, and stuff not to my liking. My keywords are Quality, Thrifty and Well Built.

Upscale = expensive for the sake of being expensive just so people can feel good hanging around people of their own ilk without having to stand next to the dredges of society.

I used "upscale" recently, but I didn't intend the meaning you've used. I described my parents' former neighborhood of Reston, Virginia, as being relatively upscale. The meaning I intended was that it was expensive and well kept.

I word I don't like is "impact" when used as a verb, as in, "This is going to impact that."

The evacuation was so intense, it created a tone that traveled upscale 3 full octaves.

You guys are hillarious. That's some upscale humor that really impacted me favorably.

"Ammenities" is one of those words I hate. My sister uses it all the time.

Does she sell cars or real estate?

She's a stock broker. I think she hangs around with too many sales people, though. She's pretty funny, but after awhile, enough is enough.

What's sad is that she buys into all of that sales BS. It's like when a car salesman calls the car you're looking at an "investment." I always tell them that I only invest in appreciating assets, not ones that drop like stones the minute you sign the contract.

I could never be a car salesman. I just can't believe people fall for some of the BS that they do.

Having said that, I realize that maybe I'm not so smart after all. My stock investments have been performing like automobile purchases lately.
