My favorites are the ones you make by hand, YOURSELF!!!

I've only got two that I like...

# 1.) "2-1/2 Hour-Stir/Beat-Your-Arms-To-Putty, FUDGE." This stuff REQUIRES real cooking ingredients (REAL MILK, none of this "tooti-frooti" 2% or < crap, REAL BUTTER, CUPS OF SUGAR...), a REAL TREAT! (And lots of walnuts, TOO!)

# 2.) And the second is "Seafoam" - I have to look around for the recipe...it's an "artsy" form of dessert making...cook it too long and you have tar-like pieces of .... blah....and it ain't sweet, either! Do it just right and it melts in your mouth...if I remember correctly, it's maple-flavored, so you only want more and you really have to limit yourself...I can only handle about 3 pieces, then I lust for tomorrow...

What I REALLY LIKE about these two recipes is the fact that my mother had me try to make these items back when I was 8 or 9, and with her help, I did it on the first try...then the next year she left me in the kitchen by myself and I managed both beautifully...but the kicker for me was the fact that my mother had tried getting my sister to do the same...my sister only tortured the family and kitchenware with her attempts...to this day, I'm the one in the family that makes the Seafoam and REAL Fudge...everyone else uses that recipe that calls for that marshmellow-creme-crap for making fudge...I call that stuff mudge...it doesn't taste like ANY EFFORT went into making it...(and NO, my effort isn't that I "sweat" into MY pot when it's cooking! I use REAL MORTON'S Salt...not the stuff from my brow... ).

Hey, thanks for the brain-rattler...I'm might pull the Revere-Ware out and make a batch of the Seafoam for work on Monday...

Kuan,

What, exactly, is rugelach and kolachki, anyways? Is kolachki some sort of Polish pastry?

Holiday or not-gulab jumun.

Odd incident: When I was in Iraq, the chow hall was staffed by Indians. Unfortunately, the recipes were controlled by KBR Americans, so the Indian food was pretty tasteless.
