Hyundai Genesis Impresses!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/27/first-drive-2009-hyundai-genesis-sedan/

One of my favorite parts:

"The important things to take from this are:
1. We drove a Hyundai at 145 mph and didn't have any concerns about it.
2. We drove a Hyundai at 130 mph and 100 mph and described the experience as rock solid..."

Could this be the car take raises Hyundai's status in the automotive world?
BUY ONE AND FIND OUT!

Hyundai's are always fun cars to look it because nothing is original. Its like a bunch of European and Japanese cars had sex and this is what came out 9 months later.

I see BMW 5 series tail lights, with a Lexus rake to the roof and belt line.
The interior screams Buick.
The I drive knob screams rip off.
The grill is fugly.
The front end has almost Toyota look.
The guages look like the are right out of my old Camry or a mid 90's Buick.

One of these days Hyundai will have the balls to build an original car. Until then I have no interest. I don't want a fake Rolex I want a real one.

This one is a Lexus/BMW/Buick and knowing Hyundai its engineering won't live up to those cars. Probably FWD, soft sprung, you always feel like you got second rate.

My dad worked on the Genesis and its not a bad car at all considering it will be very affordable. Hyundai and Kia are a very prominent company to keep your eyes out for. Everything is changing. They are trying to remove the bad reputation that the company has had.

If you guys have any questions then feel free I'll try to answer as good as I can within the companies closed door policy's.

Here are some for you...
When will Hyundai learn how to market an upscale car? The Azera is already called an orphan by some. Its market is similar to Genesis, except its front wheel drive, but many dealers do not seem to be able to market it.

Will Hyundai continue to sell Azera in the US?

Will Hyundai split off its luxury car division? Will Genesis buyers want to rub shoulders with Accent and Tiburon buyers?

Will Hyundai continue its great warranty?

The guys on this forum said it far better than me. Hyundai should pay attention as these comments are from owners--people who bought Azeras--people to whom Hyundai should listen.

If the car is that different and good, it should probably go by a new brand name. The VW Phaeton and Mazda Millenia are such examples of incomplete marketing.

I don't think it's a bad looking car. Everybody copies everything these days to the point where most cars don't stand out. I used to love the look of Jags because they differed from the rest of the lot but even they have joined the crowd. They don't necessarily have to be different but they need to be better than the rest to garner the attention.

Talking Genesis -- even the Bible began there

A good-looking car for sure. Overpriced and with poor gas mileage for today's world, but it looks nice inside and out. Maybe they should see about a supercharged 4-cylinder engine, or a hybrid 4.

Camry, Accord, Maxima, Genesis, etc. are all aerodynamic blobs of sedans. They'll all go 100K+ miles or more if treated properly. They all have creature comforts with the same kind of option packages and BORING colors.
When it comes to new sedans, it's really just a matter of who has the car with the best price at the time you need it. If there's something you hate about a particular car about the styling, that'll make a difference because you should enjoy what you're paying for, since they're all comparable in price.

We just bought a used Toyota Matrix, very well taken care of, but at least it has some charm, standing out due to its incredibly bright shade of red and slightly unusual styling in and out. We really love the dashboard. I need to update the signature. My wife may let me drive it this weekend

I don't know anything about Hyundai's, so I can't comment on their quality, but I see no problem with their copying other designs. That's how Japanese manufacturers used to do it. In fact, the Datsun 510, the greatest of all Japanese cars (IMHO), was a rip-off of the BMW 2002. The Japanese took the best parts of other companies' designs and figured out ways of manufacturing those designs at a lower cost. In the process they also improved the reliability and durability of the final product. They built some great cars and motorcycles using that approach.

My parents drive Hyundai and Kia, my sisters both have Hyundai's, I have my 3rd Kia...dead nuts reliable, every one. They are appliances, and nothing more, but like good appliances, they never break. The 03 Kia Rio my daughter drives now was bought new, with 5 speed and A/C, for $9800. It has 125xxx miles on it, and in that time, has had tires, 2 sets of front brakes (the factory rears are 50% still), one clutch and a timing belt. It gets 32-35 MPG, depending on how it is driven. It is cheap and tinny but it has done everything we have asked of it. I think the Azera is beautiful, as is the Genesis, but I refuse to spend that much money on a car.

The problem is you are getting a fake. I have no desire to buy a fake look alike. The Japanese actualy built some really good rip off's. Like the Lexus LS430 which ripped the W140 bad.

These cars are for people who want BMW 5 series or Lexus GS but can't afford them. So they drop $35k on one of these and no one knows what it is but it looks kind of expensive. Naturaly after 2-3 years they don't make them anymore so getting it fixed is an issue, and since its a cheap car they look beat.

Has anyone every seen a really good looking 10 year old Korean car? I havn't they are all shot.

That does not bother me. If the car is well designed and constructed, I don't care so much how original it is.

Thomas Jefferson may have been the all-time master of ripping off great designs and improving upon them. His masterpiece, the University of Virginia, is an collection of architectural designs that he found, rearranged, adjusted, and assembled in Charlottesville. The result is outstanding. It is not only the most beautiful university or college I have have ever seen, it is one of the most beautiful and pleasant places I have been.

So, there is such thing as a skillful copy.

Sounds OK to me, so long as the Hyundai is a good value.

You may have to wait a few years to ask that question. I think they have improved their quality in recent years. Or so I've heard. Personally, I will stick with German and Japanese cars for transportation and British cars for fun.

Toyota (Lexus) and Honda (Acura) have copied Mercedes, Kia and Hyundai have copied Toyota and Honda. Its really hard to come by an original design in the automotive market.

As far as Hyundais flagship, I'll wait and see how it handles itself in the luxury market before I show interest. Bravo for the attempt though.

No its easy to find an original car, buy a MB or a BMW. Everyone copies them, they are the originals.
