Madoff scandal hits real close to home!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28368421/

I think I know both of the guys in that article, we sail against them every year. I'm hopping the guy who killed himself isn't who I think it is, because if it was that's horrible. I'm confirming, now. Holy ****en ****, holy ****.

Edit: I don't think I know the guy who killed himself, but I do know his friend. No one is awake or around now so I'll have to wait until tomarrow to see whats up.

I can't imagine having a billion dollars, let alone lose it.

Whats the point of having that much money anyways, you'd never have anything to work for and strive for, I think I'd be bored.

Well then again you could pretty much do anything you want...... hm..

What are the scammers getting? slap on the wrist? white collar resort? THey should send em to a Federal Pound Me In the Ass prison

Money is not the primary motivator for such people, after a point its simply a way to keep score.

For those who are motivated simply by the money, there's never enough.

Sad because true happiness will always elude them.

Give it to me for 10 years and I will give you an answer. You can always strive for more. Man who dies with the most toys wins.

Who is to say they aren't happy doing what they are doing? Who is to say YOU have discovered true happiness for THEM?

**** it was the Thierry I sailed against. That sucks he was one heck of a sailor. I knew he was in finance and flew back to France a lot, but I didn't know what he did until now.

I guess the damned press got another one of my friends names somehow and have been calling him none stop.

Other than sailing against the guy and at yacht club functions I really didn't know him. But he was a nice guy. We always used to call them Frog's to piss them off since they forced us over the line a few times.

From what I got from the article, he had lost that much money for investors that had used him. He himself lost over a million. Not a small amount by any means!

Well this year has been brutal, thats for sure.

These are certainly the darkest times since the Great Depression, and WW2. Thierry is now dead, a victom of Madoff and this crazy economy, and I feel like I was just sitting at the bar with him and the rest of the Star guys on a Sunday afternoon talking about the days racing. In once sense I was August/September were not long ago...

Right now I'm having a drink in Thierry's honor. I didn't know him outside of sailing, but I did enjoy racing against him. He had a habit of following our boat this year, which was annoying at the time, but now... I did enjoy the racing, and he will be greatly missed at the start line next year.
