Real democrats
“The era of emperors and warlords is on the way out,” it proclaims, “the time is arriving everywhere for citizens to be masters of states.”

Once China got a taste for the money utilizing the global economy (or as any of them do, for that matter - look at India), there's no turning back to their older governmental ways. America's existence has dramatically changed the world, and now the global economy and its dollars will take the ball and make it run. If China ever tries to go back to its old ways, which it won't, you'd see the dollars to them dry up and you'd see the people and government reverse itself immediately. Democracy, when tied to dollar bills and commerce, works very well.
The world owes a huge debt to America and it's principles - we not only teach how it's possible to live in the world, but we live it daily as an example for others to see; the internet's ability to broadcast that exchange of information makes for a powerful force. Although all democracies in the past have failed, is it possible for our democracy to succeed because we now have global democracies utilizing global economies? In other words, if the world does it together, how can the US democracy fail by itself?

China has a history of really strong iron fisted rule followed by things falling apart followed by iron fists. what needs to be done is to remove the iron fist without having the country devolve into civil war and chaos.
What we need to do is foster the people who will overthrow the one party state that exists in China now (can't really call it communist) and replace it with a real democracy. The two things I can see that could go wrong are this The PLA could and probably would nuke Shanghai if things REALLY got out of control. The army was purged so thoroughly after Tiananmen Square that I believe that they would have no thought about destroying a million peasants if it would keep them in power. THe other thing that worries me is that if the democrats do prevail, will they see us as an example or as tools of their former opperssors? They might overthrow their government and then kick us out for being collaborators.

Obama shouldn't go to China but should invite its leaders here instead. That way he doesn't appear to the Chinese as a approaching them hat-in-hand and will gain more negotiating leverage.
