Die ungepanzerte Version wurde 1939/40 durch die Reichsregierung für den Fuhrpark geordert, daher IA-Kennzeichen für Berlin. 1944/45 zwecks Überholung ins Werk Stuttgart verbracht und dort Mitte 1945 durch die franz.Besatzung requiriert und als Generalswagen benutzt. Später im Rahmen einer Sammlung restauriert und Anfang 2005 nach Deutschland repatriiert.


Es wurden vom Typ 770 K neuer Bauart in den Jahren 1938 bis 1943 insgesamt 88 Einheiten hergestellt. Davon mit 46 Stück mehr als die Hälfte als offener Tourenwagen, einige wenige davon auch gepanzert.

"These non-armoured specimen was ordered by the Government in 1939/40 and got the usual IA-plate for Berlin. 1944/45 she went to Mercedes/Stuttgart for an overhaul and got trapped until mid-1945 when she was commissioned by the french occupation-troops for the use of the commanding General. Subsequently restored inside a large collection she was repatriated to germany in the begin of 2005.

From 1938 until 1943 exactly 88 units of the 770 K new version were built. More than half were open tourer numbering 46 units, some very few of those armour-plated."

The non-armor plated version was ordered in 1939-40 by the Reich's government for use in the motor pool, hence the IA designation for Berlin. In 1944-45 it was brought to the factory in Stuttgart for an overhaul, where it was requisitioned by the French occupation forces for use as a general's car. Later, it was restored as part of a larger collection and, in 2005, was repatriated to Germany.

A total of 88 units of the Type 770K were produced between the years 1938 and 1943. Of those, 46 were configured as open touring cars, and some few of them were even armor-plated.

My dad was telling stories over the holidays about his dads roll in the war. He commanded a destroyer in the pacific, and after the war was stationed in Germany for a year. When he went to Germany the Navy told him he could have his personal car shipped over to Germany. So he bought a new Ford, and had it shipped. When he arrived in Germany he was asked if he had a car, he said "yes." They went on to tell him that if he didn't have transportation they had cars available. They were literately handing out German staff cars. The Mercedes he was offered wasn't nearly as nice as the one in this post. more like the 170D Colonel Klink had.

The funny part of the story is my Grandfather would be back in Germany in 1978, and this time he wasn't there with a Ford, he was there with his wife to take "European Delivery" of his new 123 300D.

My dad has always wanted a 170D because of this story. My dad told my Grandmother "I wish dad would have gotten a Mercedes when he was in Germany, I'd sure love to have a Mercedes" She remembered that, and in 1998 when she decided to retire her 300SD she passed it to him. He liked it, but it wasn't his style. SO ... Now its MINE.
