Make me an offer.

How did you go from surveyor to botanist?

I've decided I'd like to combine my desire to make things out of steel with my interest in cars, which = build custom cars. I don't really know where to start to do that. I've been watching Speed Channel's various custom build shows to at least get shop names and checking out their websites. I don't really know where to go from there.

Ask to visit some of the shops if they're close by and see if you can get an apprenticeship. There may be no pay at first, but if you prove yourself, that will change.

About 5-6 years of university coursework, 2 years of research and poof! You're in.

My brother's best friend built a kit Cobra for starts. My brother's building his own design of frame and suspension. Using a Beemer engine & tranny he bought from a wreck and rebuilt both. He's on the 10 year plan, I think. He's a BSME in spacecraft design by day and a wrenchboy by night. Has more tools than a reasonable man should have. Gets bored, buys a tool. When he's not raising babies, that is. Hence the 10 year plan.
