Chicago Gun Conference

Mayor Richard Daley said today that Chicago will host a “gun conference” next month to look for ways to beef up gun laws and get guns off the streets.

The mayor said he would bring in leaders from across the country and people who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

He said the attendees plan to review recent Supreme Court decisions that limited how cities can regulate guns.

“I believe the court’s ruling presents us with an opportunity to continue our efforts,” Daley said.

Daley also announced that Arne Duncan, chosen by President-elect Barack Obama as his U.S. Education Secretary, will not leave Chicago Public Schools until Obama is sworn in Jan. 20.

The mayor offered little about finding Duncan’s replacement, but said the search would include people inside and outside the district.

If you legislate Guns for the common citizen, only criminals will have guns. I declare that I have a right to bear arms. Even though I don't own on.

I like the way they do it in Kennesaw, GA. Every household not legally prohibited from having a gun is REQUIRED to own one. The crime rate there went down quite a bit when they passed that law, and is still lower than in surrounding towns.

I never understood these guys logic. If I was going to commit a crime with a gun I would go to the city and get one that was untracable and probably stolen. So no matter how many gun laws you put into affect, that won't change.

I guess logic fails them.
