DTV Conversion, not how but all the F***in Commercials

I don't know about you but these DTV conversion commercials are driving me NUTS, anyone else.
SEE WE DO TORTURE.

I figure for all the money they paid for the commercials, websites, phones, coupons etc they probably could have bought every family a new TV and put some money in the bank.
OK goverments involved, so they would have wasted the savings.
But still ???

Yes, there have been quite a few commercials here too.

ITs not really torture, as I do not watch alot of TV live anymore. I usually DVR it, and skip commercials.

Here's a little secret...the TV stations are "giving" the air time away to the FCC to run this crap...(pardon the pun) ad nauseum...

I, too, think the spots are innane and insipid...but remember, when you have folks that couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag with the bottom missing and sides ripped open...and you tell them that they have to hook up an antenna and a little black box in order to watch the same program on the same TV they've had for the past 15 years...I guarantee you some folks are going to pop a vein when they go to turn on their sets Tuesday morning, 17 February 2009 and all they see is "bug fights" (the static of NOTHING on the selected channel) and all they hear is static...

The polititians are trying to cover their asses right now...remember...this started out back in 1991, when Congress needed more cash and some nimrod came up with the idea that digital would clean up the Television band of frequencies and in the process, allow other services to camp on the unused channels in between the full-powered stations...and we're in year 2009...this baby is moving as fast as crap through a dead goose...

Well, the goose has been stinking up the kitchen long enough and the polititians are smelling the fruits of their ill-thought-out labors...now's the fast-approaching time for the feast...

LET'S EAT!!!!

TV, whats that? I haven't watched actual TV since the Olympics.

If there is something I want to watch, I download it and watch it on my computer.

When will they run the ad that says : "Oh yeah, and for all of you who have new TV's or converter boxes and you are watching DTV right now and think you are all set, we will changing about half the frequencies so you will have to re-scan and your antenna might not work anymore! Surprise!"

You're right...in my own market alone, two stations will be switching back to their original VHF channels from the UHF channels THEY HAD TO USE to get this little clusterfawk going a few years ago...guess what that's running them? Between just those two stations, alone, they are spending over $1M of THEIR OWN MONEY...that's money the government didn't hand out or loan...and with the economy in the shape it's in...these stations' owner groups have already laid off employees 'cause it's the only way they can do this crap and still keep all their properties on the air around the country...

The fun part? Over 75% of the folks in our market don't realize that the UHF antennas they put up this past fall (mainly to beat the weather) won't be able to pick up the VHF signals...they'll have to install an additional antenna or two in order to get these two stations...depending on where they live and which direction they'd have to point the Vs to pick up the stations...

And, each time there's some sort of switch, glitch, itch or *****...and depending on who farted upwind from the converter box, you MAY HAVE TO rescan...each and every time...

It's the nature of the beast...

And we'll be living with it for a lo-o-o-o-o-o-n-n-n-n-n-ng time...

The DTV public service announcements are no more annoying than anything with Billy Mays, Sham-Wow, Trojan finger tip vibrators or how you too can pay just a fraction of your tax obligations . .

Yea I know the stations donate the time, probably use it as their "Public Service" time.
But it still wastes a lot of time and energy created all of the commercials. Some had to have cost real $ too.

AND they announced it today, if you ordered your coupon, and haven't gotten it yet, don't hold your breath. They ran out of money, and already have a waiting list of 100K !!!!!

Still WWWAAAAAAYYYYYY Overkill on the commercials.
