MLK's political affiliation
I thought this was worthy of it's own thread.
This OPINION piece is interesting in it's deductive reasoning. http://www.zimbio.com/Martin+Luther+King+Day/articles/462/Dr+Martin+Luther+King+Jr+Democrat+question I liked how the author turned the question inside-out and asked is there any reason to believe he could have been a Democrat? I'll bet he was neither. His political leaning was more socialist than mainstream R v D. B |

Questions:
Is a Democrat in those times still standing and practicing the same things as the ones today? Is a Republican in those times still standing and practicing the same things and the ones today?

I believe he was an Independent. He may have leaned towards one end of the spectrum, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he was in tune with every one of that particular party's ideals.

I would doubt there are many that would be in tune with every one of any party's ideals. How many people do you know that would support the Reps in 100% of the things they want to do or the Dems in 100% of the things they want to do? I think most are somewheres in there.
