Press Coverage of the President-Elect

Today's NY Times on-line front page has 3 stories covering Obama speeches, and 1 about Daschle.

And there were no Cabinet appointments yesterday which would have set off their own frenzy.

No mention of the current Pres.

Don't remember much back to 8 years ago, but I'm willing to bet there wasn't a whole lot of coverage of what GWB had to say (perhaps thankfully ), except for Cabinet appointments.

Then again, the coverage of the then-Prez was a lot about pardons and pilfered furniture .

But I do think there may be a teeny bit of media bias going on .

So it would seem that Ann Coulter is right on in her new book where she criticizes the media for their fawning coverage of Obama. Imagine that!

Perhaps you are engaging in fawning coverage of Coulter. The woman wouldn't know the truth if it hit her in the buttocks with a banjo:

Obama is not a president elect, He is a ROCK STAR!

When was the last time you saw a president shirtless? I mean who cares about that? well they care when its Obama.

The last president who might have gotten this kind of coverage was Kennedy. but back then the media had some since of morality, and wouldn't dare show the shirtless president running around on the beach.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Obama does while president, but his rock star status is annoying. I mean he is the president, not Elvis, or Jesus. but there are more people in love with Obama than any other president, so he is everywhere. But he will be praised by the media who thinks the mans $hit doesn't stink, and thus his every move is a news headline.

This is good for Bush, who is working hard to do all the 11th hour Uber-Conservative law making, and pardons.

The media is like a small child with a new toy.

I thought I remember various people on here posting that media is business and that business need to give the people what they want or they go out of business.

If the people want to hear about Obama, then the media will write about Obama. There is also the fact that he is the first minority president of the US thing but I guess that has nothing to do with anything.

I suspect a lot o this is 'novelty' and that will wear off eventually. He will screw up various times and he will be treated like the rest of them except for Reagan. They did not call him the Teflon Pres for nothing.

That description is true of most mainstream media that have crossed the line of where news meets entertainment.

If one looks beyond that, and to the interviews and reports of the president elects positions and views . . . another Obama emerges, one that is more "policy-wonk" and somewhat boring compared to the media created image.

I never remember seeing ANY President-elect setting up a "President-elect Of The United States" podium (complete with seal), lining the stage with 8+ American Flags and staging news conferences/press briefings 60+ days before his swearing-in ceremonies...

This the same guy that got on a stage, in a FOOTBALL STADIUM (that his group rented out) in Denver and said something to the effect that "...I'm humbled to except your nomination..."

You mean him????

Nah, he's no media-hound...the media seeks him out for his untapped wisdom and enlightenment...

I'm waiting for the first tissue with his boogers on it to show up on EBay...whoever sells it probably won't have a job empting waste-baskets in the WH anymore...

But I can guarantee you that it will be the lead story on some network...

Or a big economic crisis. I believe the media is less critical
during a crisis.

Post 9/11 the media did not question anything Bush did.

And in Today's Breaking News...

Obama Predicts a Florida Victory

In an interview yesterday, Mr. Obama predicted that Florida would defeat Oklahoma in tonight’s BCS championship game, especially if its speedy running back Percy Harvin is healthy. But he reiterated his support for a college football playoff system and noted that other schools beyond Florida and Oklahoma can lay claim to being number one no matter who wins tonight.
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/obama-predicts-a-florida-victory/

I heard that GWB will be playing QB for the first series for Oklahoma.

However the press doesn't intend to cover it, and the network will go to commercial.
