Rodents or lack thereof

Its friggin cold up here so the mice decided to make a home in garage so I load up with mousetraps...SL sitting in the garage will surely be mouse food.

Sooooo I bait the traps with peeenut buttah check the traps and not more than 10 minutes later (one Busch Light) and I already have some prey...a shrew! I'm thinkin gotcha f-er but then I realized that these venomous mammals maybe be helping me out with the mice since they will devour a mouse litter.

I'm thinking I should give the shrews a reprieve and set my traps for mice in higher mouse type places and let nature do the dirty work....if anyone remembers my method of cat control..

If you don't know my method of cat control, please ask.

FYI I live in the deep country so dealing with critters is not a food cleanliness issue its a living in the country issue.

Oh well since you asked

I put meat scraps out to attract the Coyotes, along with a little kitty food...the yotes dined at the same carcass as the cats.

The natural order took place from there.

I am impressed that you got a shrew. I don't think they are all that common. I imagine the chance of catching another one is small. I would just set the traps and hope for the best....mice.

Mice also eat the wiring.

Like you said, it is a survival matter in the country.

A mouse trap you might try: Get a five gallon plastic bucket, put about two gallons of water in it and pour in a little liquid soap.

Get some heavy paper that is big enough to cover the top and be taped down on the sides. Cut across the paper to where it still holds up but the weight of a mouse would be enough to cause the mouse to fall through the cuts and into the water.

Place a board up the side of the bucket so they can climb up there and suspend a piece of bait above the cuts in the paper.

The theory is that they will climb up the board, try and reach the bait, fall through the hole and drown.

In practice this works on some of them, but you still wind up using a lot of traps as not of them will go for the bait. You also have to empty and reset it every day.

Since it's winter I suggest mouse/rat poison. You can put out a pan or station of it and it will kill a large number of varmints with no further action from you.

They have been in the garage and I've never seen a trace of them in the house normally I wouldn't give a rip but with the winter stored car being in there...its a problem. I'm going after them like super fly t-n-t.

The obsessive compulsive part of me escapes when it comes to things I don't like its going to get ugly. I tried poison in my barn once but after noticing that I still had mice and the green mouse turds everywhere I gave up, I think the secret to that stuff is that you need water nearby to get it working.

I don't know if this is an old wives tale, but I have been told they hate dryer sheets. So if you place them all over the interior of the car. Also in the intake and exhuast, that may keep them out.

On the plus side the car will smell Tide fresh come spring!

When my friend first got his S600 and we changed the air filters one was half full of acorns and fiberglass insulation. Luckly the little devil didn't do anything else.

I'd like to set up a wireless camera so I can get a better idea as to who/what my adversary is up to.

I checked and those things are $-$

Another problem with poison is that Mickey takes a nip of it then saunters back to his inaccessable nest to kick off.

Decomp does not smell like wildflowers.
