Serius radio stattic.
Just replaced my old one with a new smaller version.I had no problems with old one but this one only gets ststic when the engine is on. Is there some kind of static suppressor to eliminate this problem?

There was an issue with some of the units, not a recall, but I believe it had something to do FCC requirements dealing with interference. Sirius sent me a free antenna adapter allowing the Sirius receiver to be direct wired to the stereo along with a card that covers the cost of installation. I believe it was mentioned in one of their regular emails.

which system do you have? I finally hooked up the antenna on my car and have not had a problem with static on the FM modulator. I would however like to get a radio that has an input in the back as well as the front.

Does the static change frequency when you increase/decrease engine rpm? Is it a steady hum? Is it more or less random?

Both cars are just plugged into the cigarette lighter for power.I installed an outside antenna on both cars and i only have this problem on my MB.My wife has a prius.I will call Serius about the direct FM hook-up.

It is steady but increases in different areas. It sounds like crinkling paper and RPM's plays no part.

Retracting your antenna will help considerably.

I get crosstalk from some Spanish station on mine a lot in certain areas. The're a wqay you can connect it directly to our car radio that probably will eliminate that. I'm going to look into doing that on mine.

The cigarette lighter is wired as an accessory power supply and doesn't share the same path as the radio. While by itself that isn't a big deal, engineers dealt with this circuitry differently in later models as iPods and other audio accessories started using the cigarette lighter port. Our earlier models were never conceived for such uses. And yes, even though I installed an aftermarket system in my W124, the use of the cigarette lighter with the iPod will generate a HUMONGOUS amount of static! The cure is to splice the cigarette lighter power lead into the radio (ignition, not continuous hot) lead. You may have to do this with the ground lead as well. That way, you;ve eliminated ground and power supply loops that cause engine static to interfere with the audio. I have yet to do this with my vehicle, as I plan on adding a Sirius receiver and integrating it into the void to be left by the ashtray receptacle...

I took out my rear cigarette lighter and hard-wired the satellite radio to its power supply. There's a tiny bit of hum, but it's not enough for me to worry about. That new Apline iDA-X100 sounds damn good, playing through the Infinity Kappas I put in there. Hoooo Weee!

That leaves something acting like an antenna. The reason antennas have coax cable is to cancel the effect of a wire acting as an antenna. So that leaves bad antenna grounding or the power leads. I think if it's the antenna you should hear a decided reception step-up/step-down on a bumpy road as the antenna shifts between proper grounding and shorting. If the noise occurs at equal volume whether the antenna is deployed or not, then it is not the antenna. I think. That leaves the power supply. G-Benz' solution applies. Just guessing here. B |

I believe you can get a list of installers off the Sirius website.
