I heard that on NPR today. Quite a moment. I was surprised at the effect it had on me. Ol' Pete Seeger is quite the indefatigable warrior. He was responsible for bringing the song "We shall overcome" to the civil rights movement, and hearing him sing, and lead, this song at this moment was some kind of deal. Thanks for the link.

"A great high wall there, tried to stop me, a great big sign there, said 'private property,' but on the other side, it didn't say nothing, that side was made for you and me."

Saw some footage of him at the Lincoln Memorial last night. It was inspiring. I heard a few notes from a banjo but when I looked at this fingers it seemed as though he was only capable of hitting a few notes here and there.

It would have been nice to have seen and heard some of the performers down there yesterday, but I really hate crowds. I was downtown early yesterday morning and the Metro was already jam packed.

How ironic that a video of Pete Seeger leading the people singing this:
Quote:
"A great high wall there, tried to stop me, a great big sign there, said 'private property,' but on the other side, it didn't say nothing, that side was made for you and me."
would be withheld because of a copyright claim.

Well, the people always pull through, regardless of 'signs'...

That's pretty ironic, how American to copyright the festivities around a presidential inauguration, business rights first I guess.

It's the public spectacle that I find unappealing. I think it's gotten more glorious at every such event I've seen. I can't imagine Harry Truman behaving so ... specatacularly. But I don't recall his inauguration. And here we are at possibly the worst financial crisis since the 1930's and we're spending money like drunken sailors at a burlesque.

WTF is wrong with just swearing the guy in and then going to ****** work?
