The other side of outsourceing: Boeing

Here's an article on the Dreamliner:

Seems some foriegn companies can't deliver. Also, a lot of trade protectionism from abroad.

Yes. I must say looking at how much of it is outsourced and what companies are building what components I have to wonder if it's such a good idea simply from a QC standpoint.
Anohter way of putting it is when does a Boeing cease to be a Boeing?

sad sad sad

It is a case of "You make X component in my country or our airline will not buy any of these" I would not be surprised if Boeing has to set up a whole production line in China in order to sell the stupid plane there.

Since they have outsourced the engineering of major components as well as the production of them, I would not be surprised if Boeing has wings that don't match up to the fuselage!

I, for one, do not want to be a passenger on Serial Number 1!

The shop I work at has made many parts for the 787 "Dreamlifter"

It's a 747 mod, It's made to fit full-sized 747 fuselage assembly's inside, and transport from china.

I've personally process atleast a million in boeing parts. QC is strict, and all I do is finish up fixtures for trimming, or apply fixtures for drilling.

Do you have pictures of the Dreamlifter? I would love to see one disgorge a 747!

I am sure that QC is very strict. I used to work for BF Goodrich Aerospace and they made parts for Boeing and for Airbus.QC was very strict as you can't have a bad part fail and cause a plane to go down. I think what is happening now with Boeing is that they are rejecting so many outsourced parts that is is not worth sending the jobs overseas.
