Newer Mercedes...

Just got the G500 back from the shop. The window regulator in the front drivers door broke. I slammed the door last weekend, and he window fell into the door. (Never had that happen on the older ones...)

My favorite part is the 16 sparkplugs..... Why do you need that?

16 sparkplugs? My favorite cars don't have any.

That would be a good feature to have in a G wagon.

Window regulators fail on the older ones too...just after 20 plus years.

Mercedes never figured out how to do a window regulator.

They are always breaking, the W140's and W126's seem to be the worst offenders.

I think the two spark plug thing was done for emissions. That new V8 is lame compared to the M119 it replaced, the M119 is a better motor.

^^^^^^^^^^^^I think a 23 year service life is dang good for a window regulator. Some cars don't last that long. They are stressed when you roll the windows up and dont let off the switch right away, and after 20 or so years, they break. As for the spark plugs, I think the Hemis are that way also.

My first Mercedes the window kept doing that. I think I had to take it back about 4 times to get it working proporly.

BMW either! The window regulators go out all the time on my moms 2001 X5. It's like having to change the oil almost. We've gone through 2-3 window regulators in 5 years. They all went out too! on every window. The mechanic told us the motor is too strong and when you do the automatic up, it bends the track... That should be a recall thing.

That sucks.. there is a problem with the F150 pickups where the windows just fall into the door. My GF's parents had it happen twice. I'd be pretty surprised if that happened.

Emissions and fuel economy, yes. Two plugs ensure more complete combustion of the air/fuel mixture as well as a better-timed combustion stroke with a shorter burn time. You get more of the potential energy turned into kinetic energy and you send less unburnt fuel out the tailpipe.

Porsche used to put them in the flat 6 but I don't know if they do or don't any more. It is the same idea on a Mazda RX8's rotary engine as well - there are two plugs for the combustion chamber.

Yeah its the same problem with Mercedes. If your are good on the W126 you can train yourself not to bend the regulator so much.
