Where Would You Live?

If you had $200K in your pocket for a home and the ability to telecommute, where in the lower 48 would you choose to live & why?

Austin, TX. 200K won't get me a hole in the wall in CA, and I want to live somewhere hot. Austin is hot, has a good art community, and it's cheap.

Texas because 200K buys a lot of property and house and there's quite a few members from here that live there.

I'd like to be able to have 5 more acres than I have now and farm it for independent living. If you go south enough you can farm quite a variety of things including bananas.

EDIT: I was typing while tankdriver posted. Interesting that the first two responses are pro-Texas.

West Virginia, on the outskirts of a larger sized community. Cheap homes/land and low low taxes. Beautiful country and little to no traffic.

If I had $200 grand, I would live right where I live now in Korntucky, land is cheap and $200,000 would pay off my house and commercial building and my Benz & truck. My Printing & Sign shop in right in the middle of down town, and My house 1.5 miles away in the middle of the country side.

Ditto that - I love the country in West Viginia, it's gorgeous (their taking away my license to drive there due to a run in with one of the many seemingly inappropriately high ratio of state troopers notwithstanding).

I'm pretty happy where I am now, Northern Virginia. $200K won't buy much of a house here, but it would at least be a down payment on one. I've lived here for twenty-six years.

Somewhere that has extremely high taxes and a huge welfare infrastructure and an intrusive government.

San Francisco, CA.

My old place is for sale again in San Francisco and I am thinking about buying it back, already talked to the broker about it.

I missed the view out of there.

Pretty ambitious asking price though

200 grand won't get you anything in the City to live in though.
