Actually, you can't park in front of your neighbor's house because they do own the property...you just don't have the right to do anything with that 5-6' in front of your house. If someone does park in front of your house, you can have it towed.
HOA's do suck though because who says what is deemed a large project? I've had issues with Code Enforcement for legit issues, but also for working on my car in my own driveway...and then putting everything away for the night when I'm finished. If I can do a motor/tranny swap in my driveway inside of a day I don't see why there is a problem with it. My favorite was when I sent the DeLorean wheels out for replacing and the car was on blocks for 2 weeks and I got a code enforcement letter...dated 2 days after the new wheels/tires were back on it and it was off the blocks. |
heck i'm not even in an hoa and my neighbor across the street turns us in.about 3yrs ago the kids old honda had a city owned tree fall on it in a windstorm.trapped him and 2 buddies in the car for over an hour until they cut the tree off the car"city ins carrier said it was an act of god and they wouldn't pay".well the roof was caved in and the back window broken.so we just put some clear plastic over it and duct-taped it on.it actually looked pretty good, nice and tight no wrinkles, and the car was a lighter grey color so the tape kinda blended in.anyway the ass-wipe across the street turned us in for having a junk car in the yard.deputy shows up one night with a summons.we had 7 days to remove it.we had to take the reg and current ins card up to city hall before they would drop the issue.then last year he had a fuel leak on his acura.he used the factory jack on the drivers rear corner and jacked it up,it was leaking right in front of the back tire.he did this at about 6 at night and fixed it the next day.so it sat overnight on the jack.about 3 weeks later here comes the deputy again with a summons for having a car up on jacks.my god not even 24hrs.funny thing is i had my 36ft 5th wheel camper setting where the acura was.asked the deputy what the hell are you talking about,he said we just go where the summons tells us.yet the block over behind this guy is a car that has been on ramps for at least 6 months.i guess if he doesn't drive by it it doesn't bother him. wonder what he's gonna say when my yard is ripped to hell this summer adding onto the house. i suppose he'll ***** about my huge 3 car garage.of which one stall will have a hoist.i'm sick of crawling around under my cars.i grew up in a shop with 7 in floor hoists so got spoiled.

im going to frame this letter

I would never, not in a million years buy a property with a HOA. I think they are made up of bored busy bodies with no lives who get off on busting balls. Condo's too, I have no interest.
I also know myself, and I know I would get into trouble with one.:D Out of spite I would probably go buy the ugliest car you can imagin and block it up on my lawn. Than get myself in trouble.:D F them. |

When we got the house we never got any HOA rule book or anything.. and we had a house 3 door down for 5 years prior and no HOA rule book. Its not like I have 6 cars in my driveway all on jack stands in various stages of repair/tear down. I just have one under a cover which has current registration on it... take that *****es I think I saw the guy that marked me down for it when I was removing the right front fender for ozzie. I tried to stop him to see what the hell he was up to but he kept walking his fat little self. So I let him keep walking because he needed it. I have to watch out for ass hats with clip boards now and make sure to run them down with my panzer wagon. |
If you're bored, go over the rules, and see if there is anything you can nail your neighbor on. Don't forget to take pictures as proof.

It makes no difference whether you get a rule book. What does matter is that its existence must be disclosed to any potential buyers. Check the contract. It is probably there. If not, well, who knows.
|
so I have to go out of my way and find the rule book which probably doesn't even exists. Seriously, no book anywhere.
I was removing the right front fender because someone bought it and some fat ass was walking by the house with a clipboard. I yelled out "Excuse me! Excuse me, what are you doing?" because I get curious when fat people walk by my house with a clipboard. didn't stop and kept on going... I'm guessing that was the HOA.. idiots. so now im going to try and find out what the hell the rules are since we've been here 6 years and have never once seen the rule book. it said Section 13 Parking and Auto Repair: No major auto repair may take place in the driveway of the home or lot. oook... whats so major about removing a fender? I could possibly see a frame off restoration as "major" but thats me and these nazi's might consider airing your tires "major" This is my only form of income at the moment due to the economy since my job is down the tube(7 hours a week.. please) Like I said before this is going to put a damper on working on my 300D.. I've done oil changes, transmission fluid/filter changes, interior swaps, valve adjustments, door alignments, wheel/tire swaps, brake jobs, IP adjustments, new lights, wash, wax, detail cars seriously.. whats so major about anything... oh man I am pissed. I should clean my guns out on the porch next time the asshat walks by.. Nothing like cleaning the barrel of a 30-30 to make the next shot sure and true. |
Pull it in the garage. I prefer working on a car in the garage anyway.
No room? I had that problem a few years ago. I was renting a room in a house, including half of a garage, but needed the whole garage for about a year. $200/month extra, and I got the thing. |
That is pretty strict. I can understand neighbours not wanting to see a car parked for days on a driveway in pieces...but a few hours' work? That's ridiculous.
Glad we don't have many HOA's up here. Canadian Tire would go out of business if we did. :D |

this is really bothering me... If I can't do something I like or something I have to do to make it by then what am I supposed to do. |
Sorry Don, I'm going to have to side with the HOA on this one... You're parting out a car in the driveway for all the world to see. You are being considerate by covering it, but that day you were unlucky.
Whether it has a valid registration or not, its a junk car that you are dismantling... not something appropriate to do in a densely populated residential neighborhood. Repairs and maintenance is one thing, junking a car out for all the neighborhood to see is another. You must have great parents. Mine would have never let that happen while I was living there. |
How does he know I'm parting it out. I could have been removing the fender to work on the wiring that it covers . hmmm? Or removing the fender to take it into the garage to regrain the stainless steel. There are a multitude of reasons why I could be doing what I'm doing.
get this at our old house we got a notice for our lawn being not green!... Hello, water ban, anyone home... We can't water the lawn, no rain=not green grass. ****ing idiots. If I recall correctly everyone in the subdivision got one, except those with lush, green grass... which seemed to belong to those on the HOA board. I think I shall have the county come out and monitor their water use. HA! Got you now |
