What pisses me off even more than Obama letting this go forward is CA's government even pushing for it during these economic times.

Oh, and there's this tidbit.

GM Ohio, Michigan Shift Cuts to Eliminate 2,000 Jobs (Update1)

By Jeff Green

Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. said it will eliminate shifts in the second quarter at plants in Ohio and Michigan, eliminating about 2,000 jobs, and cut production at 13 other plants in the U.S. and Canada as U.S. sales drop further.

The Detroit automaker, which already closed most of its 22 plants in North America this month because of slow sales, is taking the additional steps into next quarter after GM cut its estimate for U.S. sales this year to 10.5 million, GM spokesman Chris Lee said. The automaker doesn’t have an estimate yet of total vehicle production cut.

GM is cutting production, eliminating brands and negotiating costs with its unions and debt holders as it tries to prove it can become profitable to keep $13.4 billion in government loans pledged by the U.S. Treasury.

GM will begin alternating between morning and afternoon shifts at a Lansing, Michigan, plant that makes Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia sport-utility models from Feb. 2 until it eliminates the afternoon shift March 30, eliminating about 1,200 jobs, Lee said.

The automaker will also alternate schedules at the Lordstown, Ohio, plant that makes the Chevrolet Cobalt starting Feb. 9 and end the second shift on April 6, he said.

I don't get it. The Feds cede control to states which effectively shrinks government and puts more control in local hands and people still complain.

I'm with you on that.

Folks who donb't like it need to learn who their state reps are and go after them.

The good and bad for New Jersey

The good news: Lisa Jackson left as head of the NJ DEP.

The bad news: She is the new head of the US EPA !

I am all for giving back control to the states. However we can all kiss our Diesels goodbye in Cali, NY, Ma, NJ, etc... This also means that MB, VW, BMW will stop bringing them in if they can only sell them in 37 states...

Giving control to California does not mean giving it to the people of the state. It means giving more control to the unelected and dictatorial CARB.

Californians should put up a referendum eliminating CARB and replacing it with an elected body.

Hey iwrock,

If you want to sell the 300TE, let me know!

I might save it from the crusher!

(California will mandate that all cars manufactured before current year - 4 years to be crushed, (except Prius's and Insights of course!))

YES WE CAN! WE NEED CHANGE!!! OOOBBBBAAAMMMAAAAA!!!!!

Hahahha, o well, we had a good run, time to turn into Europe I guess. My 9mm exit option is looking better and better every day!

That's how I see it. Smaller countries with less extensive natural resources have already stepped up to the plate in terms of using fuel more efficiently. Like much of Europe. Both Canada and the US are still benefitting from large natural reserves, but that won't last forever.

Lose your diesels? Maybe the old ones, but the newest diesel technology from Germany will (has) pass(ed) CA requirements.

The technology is there...I think it is appropriate for Obama to forward the agenda and get things moving.

For every person who complains about this putting old-tech gas-guzzling engines and their parent companies out of business, another person will see this as an opportunity to build a better business - and a better car.
