Thats what you get when the gas tax goes into the general slush fund.

If the lieing, stealing, criminals in DC actualy spent the tax money they collected properly on this stuff we wouldn't have this problem.

I'm sure the American Civil engineers will be flush with cash in the near future.

I'm reminded of that D every time I go out on our cobble roads....well, not so much, cobble would be smoother!!

Hopefully some projects will get underway soon to fix some of those issues...

You could say the same thing about spending close to a trillion on the Iraq adventure. If only that money was spent here instead we'd have far fewer problems.

Over here in NV the infrastructure doesn't seem too bad, though the road quality isn't consistent, but overall it's OK. It seems that the east part of the country where everything is older is where most of the problems are.

We're right in the expansion contraction belt a third of the year. It's a no win.

Part of the problem is up north the roads get frozen and fall apart faster. Down south they seem to stay nicer for longer.

Our local roads are quite nice, the city does a good job and the mayor likes getting re-elected so come election time everything gets paved!

Don't forget the former Labor Secretary Reich wants to ensure that those funds do not go to "white guys"; not that he has anything against "white guys". Some of his best friends might be "white guys".

Replacing infrastructure isn't sexy; it doesn't get votes. A new bridge, even a bridge to no where is sexy--you get a parade and a ribbon-cutting and press, lots of press. Lots of opportunities for the politicians to get good publicity.

Replacing a leaking 72 inch water main just doesn't rate. No crowds; no cameras. People who get water from their faucet are not impressed--its only when there is no water that people pay attention.

Only about 50% are federal taxes, the rest is for the state, so call your governor.

The Feds aren't here to spend money, they are to provide for the common good, national defense, things above and beyond the states. The states do the rest, as it was written in the Constitution.

The cost of the Iraq war is not the downfall of our infrastructure. Not to mention, what is the price you would incur without the war? Who is willing to pay that, assuming they understand it, which most people do not.

I know Interstates are mostly funded by the feds. I'd imagine many other parts of infrastructure are too, at least partly. I have no doubt that war spending has greatly affected the amount of money available for infrastructure. I'd gladly pay whatever price if any of not going into Iraq, but it's too late for that.

The roads here do that a lot given our constant freeze/thaw cycle in the winter, but usually the city just seals the gaps and that's good enough for a while if caught early.

FYI the interstates were designed as military roads for a Soviet invasion that never came.
