Health Insurance is a SCAM (rant)

Recently I became a full time employee of the company i've worked for, for 6 years. Part of the full time employment is health benefits.

Prior to turning 25 I had been covered by my dads insurance because I was in school. now that I'm out of school and working its time for me to get my own insurance.

I'm a pretty healthy person. I don't get sick easily, and I don't complain a lot. When I was a kid I use to go to the Doctor (a very old guy) when I was sick, and he use to fix me. when I had an ear infection he used a vacuum device that was most likely from the 50s to suck the crud out of my ear. it hurt like hell. He also gave me injections and other minion surgeries, all from his office. I have never been to a hospital. needless to say when he retired I stopped having a doctor. I've gone to the clinic several times, but never to the same doctor.

I don't like doctors. ever since my doctor retired I haven't met a doctor that fixed people. they all ether prescribe drugs, or refer you to a specialist. none of them actually do anything. they use their degrees to force you to pay high prices and then give you advice you could get from a trained pharmacist.

Before my dads insurance ran out I went into the clinic for a physical. figured it would be a good thing to know where I was before I gave up the coverage. The doctor started the physical by telling me I was fat (just in case the mirror didn't tell me) and then went on to tell me he wanted to test me for Diabetes. Umm OK Doc. So I drive a cross town to another clinic to get my blood drawn (because the doctor must not know how to draw blood). Then 2 weeks later I come back and the doc gives me the physical, and tells me, "Besides being overweight you are perfectly healthy."

Shocked and Amazed (not really) I leave the doctors office.

I turn 25, and I'm now uninsured. My boss doesn't like this, my dad doesn't like this. everyone I know doesn't like the fact that I'm uninsured.

I feel relieved! I love not being insured. I'm no longer paying into a system that supports yo-yo doctors that can't even draw blood.

At the change to the year my boss gives me the full time position and gives me a budget to get insured. I told him I'm not exactly excited about getting insurance but look into it anyway. I decide to get Kaiser, it seems like a simple enough insurance plan. (I understand the plan, that is a plus!)

Well, Kaiser turns me down. Stating that I have a medical condition that prevents me from becoming a member of Kaiser. ummm.... OK...

My boss is now "helping" me find another insurance plan.

But I don't care. The system is so F-ed that I don't care. In fact I'm pretty sure my boss could do better things with the budget he is offering me. I know I could!

I like my health insurance, even though I haven't used it now for close to 2 years. It's nice to have for when I get very sick, and would have a $4000 bill, which I would have had 3 years ago if I had no insurance...

What is the medical condition that stops you from purchasing Kaiser insurance?

I haven't had insurance for a few years.

Just wait until you need it. I needed 4 lousy stitches last year and it was around $100 a stitch.

I don't think you really understand what you are talking about here.

Nor here. What do you want the doctor to do? Draw your blood and charge you doctor's rates? That is why they sent you elsewhere. To get a phlebotomist to do it. That phlebotomist specializes in blood draws so you don't get to be a human pin cushion. Doctors can but don't do it because of the cost and the idea that practice makes perfect.

Once again, investigate and you will learn that phlebotomist draw blood. Nurses draw blood. Doctors don't. Not that they cannot but they don't.

It's called a pre-existing condition. Kinda like your car. They want to know if it is damaged before they insure it. You are damaged goods.

So why the rant? You didn't get something you didn't want. What is the problem? You don't hear me complaining that I didn't want gay sex last night and didn't get it, do you?

If you worked for a living you'd understand that it isn't sick to make a living off your skills. But since you find it so deplorable, why don't YOU go get your medical degree and treat people at cost. Don't make money after all, getting profit from the sick is a no-no.

Most full coverage policies cost many hundred of dollars per month, say $500. You haven't needed meds in 24 months = $12,000. $12,000 - $400 = $11,600.

Let's say you put that $11.6K into several CD's and continue doing so until you real ol'fartdom -- mid-40's and then get catastrophic insurance.

I've got health insurance through my job, $15 a week for full coverage, Blue Cross/Blue Shield.. Its pretty good. I just got dental so I'm going to go to the dreaded dentist for a check up. I've got 3 of those painful teeth coming in, 4th is non existant. But the sucky part is I now need 1500 hours a year to keep it, up from the 1k. Working 12 hours a week and now I wont get insurance. I can get back on my step dads, I'll just ride this out until they nix it from me. Plus by then ill be in real college so my step dads insurance will have to cover me since I wont have a job or severly limited schedule or w/e.

In any sense insurance is a scam. Car insurance, mortgage insurance(oh man is that a joke), etc. But I kinda like having health insurance just in case I fall out of a tree or something.

I'm waiting for a letter in the mail. they couldn't tell the broker my boss uses to buy the insurance because of a privacy law. so I'm in the dark till it arrives in the mail.

I honestly don't understand what it could be, especially since I just had the physical.

My co-worker that got heired at the same time I did got accepted. He is the sickliest person i know. he went to the allergist last year and had some test done. he was literately allergic to all the test they ran on him. He lied on his Kaiser form and said he hasn't been to the doctor in 4 years. So the only reason they could have turned me down has to be because I got a physical.

This is the thinking that makes me hate insurance
