Need a new water heater

My water heater is leaking.
What water heater is the best to buy? I need an electric 40 gallon upright.

Where is the best place to purchase.

Thanks

Danny

Anywhere you go and you find the one you like see if they have any scratch and dent specials. I bought a new 55 gallon upright for my biodiesel processor for like nothing since it had a nice dent in it.

If you plan to be in your house for awhile, get one with a good warranty. if you plan to be there forever, look into the marathon brand

I would highly recommend going to a tankless water heater my boss did and immediately saw a decrease in the electric bill.

How does the tankless system work?

I have no idea all I know is my boss says she never runs out of hot water and isn't paying to heat a large tank of it all the time. She says the savings will pay for it in a year or two.

It's hot water on demand. The water only heats up when flow starts. I use them commercially under sinks that are too far from the hot water source. The water gets instantly hot.

I was thinking about the tankless but the power requirements are pretty high. I don't know if the power supply to the house is high enough.
Your looking at 150 household amps required & 80 just for the unit.

I had a tankless for a few years. Big electric job. 90A/220v circuit. Had a couple of problems with it. First, water took awhile to get hot and then temp tended to move around. I solved this by installing a 110v 5 gallon unit just after the instant unit. Water was hot pretty quick and the 5 gal tank buffered temp fluctuations. Second problem was that the triacs firing (electric control) put a ton of noise on the power line in our house. Noise spikes would reset the controls of the dishwasher and it would run forever (or at least like 6 hours). Had to set the temp on the instant unit to off to run dishwasher. When the 5 gal rotted out, I just replaced the whole thing with a smart 50 gal electric. I will say, that the instant cut the electric bill by about $30 per month. i figure that is how much I was paying just to keep water hot.

I've had a gas tankless hot water heater. Excellent. They only heat the water on demand. Their only weakness is if you have need of multiple uses of hot water at the same time, the flow can diminish significantly, depending on the BTU rating of the heater.

they also have a problem of.if the unit is not right by the faucet you want. it takes awhile to get hot water as you have to purge the cold out of the line.but there is a device called a chili pepper that cures this.check it out on the web.

If you go into HD and they have three tanks by the same manufacturer with different warranties, it is the same tank, you just have to pay more for the extended warranty. If you are the type who wants the extended warranty and are organized enough to keep the warranty paperwork somewhere, go for the most expensive. I'm cheap, so what I would do is buy the cheapest, flush a few gallons out of the bottom fitting once a year to keep it clean, and change the anode rod every few years depending on the quality of you water.

I install solar hot water systems so if you are interested in that I can give you some advice. The first thing I would say is it is only worth doing if you can get several thousands in rebates.

Actually, I see you are in Florida! So your only question is do you want to pay for hot water or not?

I went forth and Googled and the tankless system is good depending on how many people live in the home and how much hot water you need.
