That's one reason why i won't buy GM cars...that plus the fact they are cheaply made...

Note. Not every one comes with Onstar. Also, you can disable it. If you are fitted with a GPS from the govt, you cannot remove it

In the past, you could order a GM car under the "fleet" code, and this would involve an Onstar removal, altogether.

originally we were taxed by a price per gallon, and then the politicians saw a opportunity to profit and profit big. They started taxing by a percentage of cost. Remember the killing they made last summer at $4+ a gallon? I do!
I guess if they try to put gps in my vehicle I would just have to tamper with it, or attach it to a car that is not being used much, like my summertime ride.
They dug their own hole by raising prices last year, and then destroing the economy. Then when we cut back our driving and others drive like my grandmother with bad eyesight, their revenues dropped. DUH!!

Deal with it! I feel no sympathy.

Sure you can? Ha! Love it.

They don't need to be tracking us either.

The federal tax on fuel is levied by the gallon. It is not levied as a percentage. Where in the world do you get your facts?
As to the proposed but short lived tax based on mileage; the GPS unit in the car would communicate with the pump and the appropriate tax applied. Removing the GPS would result in a higher "penalty" tax. This fact is lost on the yahoos that think they can outsmart the g'ment by removing the GPS/tax unit.
All this has been quite entertaining.

It wouldn't take long for the black market to bring out a scanner that would reset the rfid to what ever you wanted it set to, mileage wise. Just scan it before you fill up, and BINGO!!! Lower taxes

That could be a reason it's not gonna happen.

Sorry Chas H, take a look around and tell me what's happening to the country, right now...

A good portion of the legislators in Congress are lawyers...not really people like you or me...

I'll assume for the sake of this discussion, you own a home...did you read the whole sales contract when you bought it?

Nope, you probably handed it over to an attorney and had them do the legwork...good for you...

Now, if the clowns in Congress can crash our monetary system like they're doing right now, and WE don't complain...don't think for one second they won't try ANYTHING that would allow them more control over what they want.

Besides, if it happens, how much money do YOU have to file suit, get SOMETHING on any court calendar and fight for your rights?

Remember, if we don't *****, then they think nothing they are doing is wrong, or we don't really care...

If it sounds bad, don't assume it won't happen...make sure it doesn't happen.

I have no idea how all this relates to a DOA GPS tax/mile.

This DOA GPS TAX/MILE proposal is a pending bill ... not law ... yet.

So maybe that's the problem...you're not sure what's really happening...

Somehow, we're getting this information BEFORE those proposing it can get it into legislation...which IS A GOOD THING.

Dumb ideas need a swat-down before someone starts to take it seriously...we've had years of this and it's about time we, the citizens of the US, start letting those WE'VE ELECTED that they are done doing the drum-solo at Woodstock...the tune they've been playing for too long is worn and it just doesn't do it for us anymore...

I don't need a GOVERNMENT GPS Unit on anything I own...PERIOD.

I would, however, propose that each and every Senator and Congressperson have an ankle-bracelet attached to them the whole time they're in office...just to be sure we're getting what we're paying for...then again, maybe, we may not really want that type of detail...

And the last thing that the Government needs to worry about, at least from my perspective and POV, is where I drive, when I drive and how much I drive.

They can't even keep track of the money they are spending...why would we want to "burden" their accountants with something "minor" as GPSing every automobile in the US?

Oh, wait...I forgot...they need cash and can't figure out (Translation: They don't have the guts/nuts.) how to cut needless programs...

It's not pending legislation. Get hold of your jerking knee.

I'm not a tax dodger so much as an eye-in-the-sky 24hr government monitor dodger.
