Talk about a windfall
 

Talking to a friend of mine today who received a letter from a friend of his whom he had not seen in 20+ years. Turns out the guy was a member of a Connecticut Indian tribe (Mohegan?) that opened a casino. The casino brings in 2.3 billion (!) dollars a year. There are only 2000 members of the tribe and they split the profits between them. Guy says there is a free lunch after all.

I love it when Native Americans start a casino and part the white man from his money. Kinda makes up for the shafting they got early on.

Within the nations it's most often refered to as:

" Return of the buffalo!"

I've seen some of these casino "indians" on television and racially they look anything but Native American. And even if the indians are real, the people behind the casino often have names like Jack Abramoff.

What's with the anti-white sentiment around here anyway?

Rumor here is that the tribe which does Mystic Lake Casino takes in a Million each.

That's what my friend calculated his friend was taking in.

On July 4-8, 1788 a council was held with chiefs of theFive Nations of Indian at Buffalo Creek. [1] The various tribes, however, were unwilling at that time to relinquish title to any land west of the Genesee. Phelps pleaded with the Chiefs and Sachems present at Buffalo Creek to allow them some land on the west bank of the Genesee so they could set up and gristmill and a sawmill. They finally agreed on a tract of land west of the Genesee, running south from Lake Ontario approximately 24 miles (39 km) and extending west from the river approximately 12 miles (19 km), with this western boundary paralleling the course of the Genesee, and containing 184,320 acres (746 km²). This became known as the "Mill Yard Tract". Within the Mill Yard Tract, Phelps and Gorham gifted 100 acres (0.4 km²) to Ebenezer "Indian" Allen at the high falls of the Genesee River so he could build a grist mill and sawmill. Allen's 100 acre (0.4 km²) tract became the nucleus of Rochester, New York.
It was later said that when the tribes realized the amount of land actually needed to operate the two mills, they were "astonished."

Actualy Trump tried to join but they wouldn't let him.

Before the casino's there was like one old lady living there and they figured out how to allow gaming...now we have a lot of Indians all of a sudden.


Either way I don't really care, I enjoy black jack and I'm glad they are screwing the feds out of taxes.:D I fully support anyone who screws uncle sam out of tax money.

No, but the ones I've, er, encountered do voluntarily in most cases because they are diversifying and opening car dealerships, ect...have trouble with localities if they don't pay taxes.

Don't want to get to far into it, but you guys have a bit of a rosy image about the situation. It ain't all peaches n cream--some of the most depressing scenes I've ever witnessed have been on the reservation.
