Thumbs up Thomas Jefferson...a Visionary

John Kennedy once said to a assembled group of scholars in the White House, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

The Thomas Jefferson quotes below could prove his point.

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

Very Interesting Quote:

In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Meet on the level, leave on the square. Great words to live by

I just saw a Winston Churchill quote that I'd like to add:
A cat looks down on you, a dog looks up to you, give me a pig--they look you straight in the eye and consider you an equal.

When the Yankees fired Casey Stengel for turning 70, he said, "I'll never make that mistake again."

It amuses me to no end that the Democrat Party celebrates it's power through annually acknowledging Jefferson and Jackson as the sources of their wisdom.

That is a strange delusional narcissism.

Agreed. And that's why Reagan was correct to rail against the really bad practice of sending free money in the mail to successive generations of leeches. And why Clinton was correct, with Republican prodding, to reform the welfare system.

But implying that any and every govt. social program is that and that alone is way simplistic. There are plenty of people who want to work but for various reasons it eludes them. The free market sometimes addresses this problem, other times does not.

I get a kick out of the way most everyone who references this quote assumes the tyrant is someone else, certainly not the leaders that the speaker holds dear. If you believed, correctly, that Nixon was a tyrant of sorts for various reasons and that the war in Vietnam was criminal folly, would you have been doing your patriotic duty to spill the blood of the tyrants in the matter?

Someone is doing this? Some of our founders did display wisdom (not sure about Jackson (Andrew?)), at least in the opinion of many. Referencing their utterances offends you??

Mayer Amschel Rothschild

No one does international banking like the Rothschild's do. My all time favorite investing quote came from Mayer Amschel Rothschild, "to buy while blood is running in the streets". I have come to beleive that this quote is ment to be taken quite literally.

Sadly Oswald was killed a bit to quickly, I'm usualy in favor of very fast executions but not before the prisoner talks. He took his motives, and any other helpfull info with him to his grave. If the FBI got a chance to work him over for 6 months I wonder what interesting things may have come out.

You think JFK wasn't a tyrant and responsible for Vietnam?

Certainly someone who shares Oswald’s predilections all things Marxist/Leninist has the capacity to at the very least imagine that Oswald's contemporaneous world view might have fit easily and found agreement within your original statement but for only the player's name and political affiliation being different. One can't deny that Oswald was a trailblazer when it came to the slobbering embrace of anything anti-American. The fact is he could be a poster child for all who today desperately rail and fight against the fundamental ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness not provided by others.

Had Oswald at an earlier time in his life, not been trained as a Marine Corp rifleman and developed that particular set of skills; he might at some later time found himself alongside a kindred spirit such as Bill Ayers mentoring a young Barack Obama. Without question Oswald’s episode in the USSR and his renunciation of US citizenship would have eminently qualified him for inclusion into the present ruling inner circle if not an appointment to a Cabinet position.

+1 for all but the last banking quote. Private banks? What's that?

I won't speak for Bot as he is fully capable of speaking for himself. For me, I am offended at the hypocrisy of using these utterances as a way of saying "We should pay attention", yet they, as a party are completely opposed to the actual substance.

I am trying to understand the relevance of this comment. Is it intended to hurt his reputation, or enhance it? Why bring it up, here?
