A 260E should not have a 300E badge, right? + 260E MPG

As the title says:
A 260E should not have a 300E badge, right?
Did someone have to have put a 300E badge on?

What type of MPG does the 260E get compared to the 300E?

Much appreciated

I think they re-badged the 260E as the "300E 2.6" at some point during production (the early 90s if I remember correctly). So, it could say 300E on the trunk.

This site http://www.edmunds.com/mercedesbenz/300class/1992/index.html claims the 300E-2.6 gets 2 more mpg than the 300E.

This is an 87...and it does not have the 2.6 badge either (but to be fair someone could take that off so it looks a bigger engine). But swapping the 260E badge with the 300E badge?

Are there any significant differences between the 2.6 and 3.0 other than the capacity?

I found a nice one that I am looking at for a good price. I always wanted another car for backup purposes so if work needs to be done on the wagon I don't have to worry about transportation. Also I would like to keep the miles down on the wagon too

I think that from '87 to '89 it was called a 260E (and not a 300E-2.6), so it seems unusual that the one you're looking at is badged as a 300E. The 260E cars I've seen around here say "260E" on the trunk.

That's what I thought too...

Anybody who doesn't run the VIN from the ad is in for a surprise! Glad I ran it through the russian VIN site to confirm it.

Well I won!

$710

Someone must have swapped the badge then. I'll probably just remove it until I can get another 260E badge...

Auction states the car runs, but "chugs"...Another car to work on For $710 I think I got plenty of money to make her right.

With 80k miles on it too...the transmission should be fine. The top end "may" need a new headgasket/valve job...but I just did it on my M103 so I could probably have it done in a day for less than $400 total.
