Parenting is tough

Blah... preschool teacher just spoke to me about the boy's "impulsivity." He's taking other kids' stuff and gets too rough in the playground.

Whatever happened to the fact that if he gets his @ss kicked he'll stop?

Your child's attorney would secure a restraining order and initiate a civil suit against the offender. He would prevail in the civil case and the damage$ would be sufficient to enable him to drive a SL 550 to his morning kindergarten class.

By whome? School's aren't allowed to kick asses anymore. They'll have a bunch of snot nosed parents all over them with lawsuits and such screeching about child abuse.

I got me one of those. And thought the same thing.

He's in 5th grade now and has mellowed a bit. Just enough so the daily phone calls have stopped.

Apparently the days of detention and missing recess are over, too. There is no repercussion at school for not doing homework or projects. At home it's a different matter...

Sitting out recess was commen too...

It wasn't that long ago...well maybe it was.

My childrens' school has corporal punishment, but you have to sign a consent form at the beginning of the year to qualify. I did for both

And I'd guess at least 25% or more of the parents at the school are attorneys.

I guess I don't get it--is parenting tough because the kid's teacher burdened you with communication? Is parenting tough because you think the teacher should handle the situation rather than burden you with it?

I think the teacher's communication with you about the particular subject for a 5 yo is perfectly appropriate. I've had to deal with it, and prefer to know how my kids are acting at school.

Just hope that they don't call you in every day to sit with him during lunch and recess. If he misbehaves or is disrespectful at home, you better nip that in the bud right away. I have an unnamed relative who believes in natural child raising, as in the kid gets carte blanche to do whatever, whenever he wants. Needless to say, they are no longer welcome in my house.

Find a copy of Bill Cosby's old recording "To Russell My Brother, Whom I Slept With" for insight on how to be a fabled authority figure.

I think the teachers are too soft on the kid. I mean wtf, my neighbor takes no crap from the kid and tells him he's out of line and he stops. Period. No asking, no negotiating, no trying to get him to understand by using hand puppets, none of that. He just says it, it's done.

When I was in school, the discipline level was as follows.

Scolding
Exercise punishments
Swatting by the teacher's ruler
Going to the Principle's office
Parents called in to the Principal's office
Caning in the Principal's office
Parents called in to the Principal's office to witness caning
Public Caning
Expulsion

When you hit expulsion, it would be hard to find a school that takes you.

Suffice to say, I went thru all the levels of discipline except for the last 2.

Paddled at school. Note sent home

Parental units read note.

Spontaneous corporal reinforcement of school lesson.

Repeat as necessary.
