So to keep the Volvos or not...HELP!

I have been at debate with myself this last week as to weather or not I should sell my Volvos. I love them don't get me wrong, heck one was my first car. But I own a 1983 500SL, a 1983 BMW 633 CSI, 1988 Volvo 244 (my first car) and a 1992 Volvo 745 Turbo wagon, my camping/ daily driver...aka swedish SUV. I was quite content until last week. I had recieved an amazing offer on both cars, and we had reached a deal. A day before the deal was to close, I recieved a rude message from the individual stating that I was a jerk for selling him two cars above book. Well he did make the offer after all and I accepted.

So, that deal is off. I know that I could sell both Volvos to close to the price that he was going to pay, simply becasue of the condition. I could also just sell one. I could also keep both. It might be foolish to sell both, but I could get something like a 540 wagon to repalce the two of them. I could also just sell the 244, but it was my first car.

I guess I faced with the temptation to sell two perfectly good Volvos to buy something sexier. But If I own these two cars without issues, maybe I sould hold on to them. Then again maybe I should take the money and run.

The other issue is that I'm a single guy, and being seen in a Volvo, a nice Volvo yet may not be the best for my image. Then agaon, I don't want a women to judge me by my car. That's why the Mercedes and BMW never go out on a first date.

Finally, I think this may just be a result of a quater life crises, as I'm nearing the old age of 25.

The other issues may just be an ego issue, in that a freind of mine said that I would never see that kind of money for those cars again. Well I know they would sell as they recieve compliments etc etc. So, I'm I thinking of selling just to coinvince him I did not blow it....no that's silly but just a thought.

HELP!!!!

Let me ask you this:

Which car would you regret selling? would you regret not grabbing the money now, more than you would regret selling the cars?

If a woman judges you by your car, then you should do as one contributor here previously advised in another situation: Bang her like a screen door in a hurricane, then dump her.

A woman who doesn't understand that you are more than your car is useless except to serve your needs of the moment. She wouldn't be smart enough to appreciate herself, much less you. Why commit to that? For a challenge?

It would be a waste of YOUR life.

But the real question remains. Which will you regret more: the loss of the car/cars or the loss of the opportunity to make money in a recession?

My personal pick: Keep the first car you ever owned, sell the other one, pocket the cash, get a beater for work and see how you feel in six months.

Just make sure you don't spend the money. Keep it under my mattress.

T'll take the turbo!

If you are looking to dump the 700 turbo, I'll take it.
I'm serious.
PM me if you are serious.

Sounds confusing right there. You want your image people get of you from your car to be something but yet you don't want to be judged by your car. Which is it?

I don't think it matters if the MB or the BMW goes out on a first date or not. Even if they go out on a first date, sooner or later, you will know that this girl is a gold digger or whether she is a decent girl.

Sounds pretty straight forward to me. You pick the girl up in the Beemer or Benz, and you can forget about going dutch Whereas, you pick her up in the old 244 and she might buy YOUR dinner and maybe give you a mercy **** to boot!!

Sounds like you've got all the cars you need for awhile. I wouldn't sell any of them, unless there was something else I wanted more. Selling them just to get the money out is not nearly as rewarding as owning them.

Nothing to say you cannot still go dutch. Besides what you are suggesting is complicated by a few things.

1. As the girl, if I find out you are holding out on me, it says that you suspect I might be a gold digger. Could cause problems if this relationship goes somewhere.

2. As the girl, if I find out you are holding out on me, I would realize that you are cautious. That means I will have to plan carefully and lie low. Again, another bad thing. You want her to underestimate your defenses so you catch her easier.

3. A well maintained MB says you can appreciate the finer things in life AND you know how to take care of them instead of being the spoiled kid that trashes his stuff
