Man, things are a changin' in the Midwest. Minnesota used to be one of the most liberal states in the country. Not so much anymore as we have a second term conservative in the Gov's office and were called a swing state in the last election (MN has voted Dem for Pres the longest of any state). Iowa has traditionally been fairly conservative, but it looks like many people from the Twin Cites while be making a short drive...

Can't believe IA is allowing gay marriages before MN.

Perhaps fear and hate is not as widespread in the middle.

Oh, what the hell. Let me be the first to say it. If gays are allowed to marry, what next? Somebody will want to get married to their dog, cat, sheep, goats, etc, etc. Where will it end. What about the children? Oh, the lack of morality. The world is going to hell in a henbasket (why keep hens in a basket?) and soon, we will have the 2nd coming we were promised. Life will end.

That said, I would have expected from WI, which IMO, is just a half step behind CA in these matters.

No way...I would have expected MN long before IA or WI.

aklim, I have already been through the "free to marry a sheep" crap before with you. The state can ban contracts if the state has a compelling interest to do so. In the case of gay marriage, for years the "compelling interest" was crime prevention, because homosexuality was illegal. Once the SCOTUS said it was legal, the compelling interest became moot, and no one has yet to come up with some other compelling interest rational to prevent the marriage of two men, which is nothing more than a contract. The state can on the other hand, show a compelling interest to prohibit all the crazy stuff you propose, polygamy puts an undue burden on the state, animals are unable to understand or be a cognizant part of a contract, etc. Now, give me one compelling interest the state has in keeping two men who want to bang each other from being a married couple. Just one. Tell us the harm, come on.

I suspect this was intended to be taken tongue in cheek as opposed to just sounding foolish and ignorant.

Don't think so but I might be mistaken.

The harm of homosexuality, bestiality, etc, etc, is pretty clear. In the traditional sense, none of this activity produces offspring. More offspring, more brainwashed people for the religion. More people in the cult, more clout. Remember, years ago, when the cult started up, it was small. Small cults can easily get overrun. If that is not a compelling reason to ban such activities, I don't know what is. Of course, now that the cult is larger, they want to keep their clout. Why do you think religions ban homosexuality? Why is it still going on? Because mankind has not run out of reasons to embrace such superstition.

Until I start my own cult and have the members give me their wives and legal aged daughters for "purity tests", yes.

Well, that at least makes some sense...

Unless you have some other reason that you think many religions ban homosexuality?
