A bit of a change today
Stood and watched as another forum member hauled the 400E away today and really felt sad,,, like watching a friend leave for the last time. I know, with all that is happening around us today, to feel anything for a hunk of machinery is really dumb,,,, it was painful to watch. Bought that car in 1996, and cared for it like a kid,,,, nothing but the best for the kid. Always Mercedes parts only, oil changes at 3000 miles, and on and on. I liked to just sit in the garage, drinking a beer, sitting on my roll around Snap-On seat and taking it in from every angle. That was one great car, and the member I sold it to said he would take care of it just as I did, and said I could come visit any time I liked.

Sooner or later they all grow up and move out of the house. Still a sad day. Ever thought about having more kids?

I know the feeling.......the remorse of second guessing your decision, the pain of separation anxiety. It gets worse, before it gets better.
In my world of Mercedes-Benzes, I've loved them all.

I felt that way when I lost my prince of a car last year. But after a few months of mourning, I adopted a "new" W124. Sometimes I still miss the peppiness of the gasser. But not too often. I like my diesel!

Maybe he will make himself known, but I will let him decide.

I know what you mean, I can't imagine losing or selling my 300SD....I've driven it for about 6 years now.....I had it in my senior year of high school, I've driven it to Florida, Disney world.....Tarpon Springs......Washington DC, Gettysburg, Oshkosh Wisconsin Air show.....its been everywhere, some real long and fun trips.
A piece of me will die inside when the day comes that it must go away. I hope that is still a long ways off. I have never driven another SD that "feels" quite the same....it fits like a glove.

![]() Congratulations Pete and to the new owner, and I'm glad it went to a good home. If I had been closer it would have been me that got it.

I don't think it's that weird to get attached to a car. Think of how many things you go through with a car, and how many things it gets you through (and to). It's a source of pride and it's like a bit of personal space you can take anywhere. And you entrust your life to it every time you get in it. I can relate, I've had my 87 since, well 87, and I've worked hard to restore it to the glory it had kind of lost through many miles as my dad's mechanically-but-not-aesthetically cared for daily driver.

Yeah, that eliminates like three, four forum members from the possibilities?

I love my 92' 400e. I purchased it in 1997 with 72,000 miles. It now has 303,000 on the clock and burns nary a drop of oil. Sweet!

Yep. I keep parking the 420SEL, and trying to drive the focus I bought to relieve the benz of daily duty. I have too keep one car at a secret location because there is not enough room for both at the house. I find myself ditching the focus and getting in the benz. I did that last night. I only drove the focus one day before I got lonesome enough for the benz to go and get it.
