Heading to Jo-burg and Cape Town in May performing typical role as Bride's sherpa.

Anyone here ever been to those two places? Suggestions of things to see..do?

Is this a honeymoon? Why are you heading there? If to see "africa" you won't see much of it in Joburg itself. You'd want to be getting out into the surrounding countryside. Maybe see some of the game preserves and national parks etc.

I guess if you are feeling adventureous you can take a tour down a gold mine. They have the deepest mines in the world there. I've never done it myself. The very thought gives me the heebi jeebis but it's apparently quite an interesting thing to see. If you are interested in military history the South African War museum in Joburg is worth a visit.

Cape Town is a far more interesting city than Joburg though. Visually much more attrractive and as the oldest western settlement in the country has more history behind it. I'd suggest taking the cable car up Table mountain. Maybe taking a drive along the cliffs up the coast a bit. Very scenic, just don't go over the edge, unless youre in a Mercedes that is

Kirstenbosch gardens might be a good place to check out if you'd like to see some flora. And if you are a wine lover then taking a tour of one of the wine farms in the "wine route" might be a good idea.

Gawd no, we've been married 15 years. I'm basically a porter for luggage and paperwork on SWMBO's business trips (you should have seen the ***** I carted across southern China before I figured out that I could pay to have it done for me).

Anyway, Joburg is where her meeting is (I'll have 4-5 days on my own there) and then we take the train to CT for some fun time. Bride was in Tanzania about this time last year and toured the Serengeti...so, we may do an animal thing or not.

I saw that cliff drive on a DVD we got from the library...neat and it's in the plan. I'm wondering about other uniquely Cape Town things to do along those lines...
