Walkout at UN conference after Iran president calls Israel 'racist'

I'm sure someone here will find a way to blame Israel for everything...

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article6132972.ece
British delegates joined a dramatic diplomatic walkout today when President Ahmadinejad of Iran told a major UN conference against racism that the state of Israel had been founded "on the pretext of Jewish suffering" during the Second World War.
Around 20 delegates, including envoys from the UK, France, and Finland stood up and left the room at what was considered an anti-Semitic remark by the Iranian leader, who has repeatedly called for Israel to be wiped off the map.

It's the UN. Who cares.

Does anyone else see the real humor of having an anti-racism conference and inviting President Ahmadinejad. That one really makes me laugh But seriously they should have never A) invited him and B) they were right to walk out on him.

He never said that he wants to wipe Israel off the map. It's a misinterpretation that is an easy way to make them look bad.

Nonetheless, the guy is a hot headed nut. I wonder what the rest of Iran thinks of this? I mean, it's no different than if our president (regardless of who he is) went around shooting his mouth off about things that are only his view and don't represent his country.

Don't worry, he's up for re-election this summer, and I don't know if he'll be getting it.

well, it is interesting that the sins of europeans - uh, that would be anti-semitism for, oh, about 400 years, starting with, maybe, the spanish inquisition? - resulted in the palestinians losing their country.

i still don't see the logic there; why should europe's bad deeds end up disenfranchising a bunch of arabs?

(yes, for the record, the iranian president is a whack job.)

Not only that, but once they had enough force, they fought the British off!!

Land is such a tough thing to argue about, because everyone has taken, killed, maimed, claimed righteous ownership to, etc. It doesn't make a difference who it is..excpet to the person claiming the ownership. You can say that Israel was not right in taking land from the Palestinians, but I think it's such a hot topic because it happened so recently / sides are taken / it is religiously involved. I mean, England took land from nearly everyone, so did France, Spain, the US..doesn't mean that it is right, but it happens. Besides, half of the problems in the world today are the result of some lines that an Imperial country drew on a map in the past..

It's unfortunate that this situation is still going on, as well as what has happened in the past.

What I don't understand is why, if you say ANYTHING remotely anti-Jewish, you are labeled anti-semetic, spit on, arrested, etc, but if you say something anti-christian, nothing happens. Sure, people care, but..that's about it. It just seems really unbalanced. And is it just me, or are most of the people who are quick to call out anti-semetic NOT from Israel, or Jewish? Israel is probably just like "psh, say what you want, but we can kick your @ss in a matter of days if we wanted to"

I find all religion pretty much ludicrous babble.

I am glad to see the Israelis and Iranians fighting this out among themselves, maybe they can rent someone else's army to crush their enemies this time, or better yet, take care of it themselves.

The problem is, the Palestinians didn't really have a country. Palestine was a British protectorate, which had possesion of thanks to the Turks being on the losing side in WWI.

they lived there, and now they don't. and a group of europeans claim that their ancestors lived there a long time ago?

Actually, the Palestinians were pretty nomadic. Most of Israel is reclaimed from unproductive sand no one wanted. In addition, you'd be surprised at how much of Palestine the Palestinians willing sold to the Israelis.

I'm having lunch with Cheney. Did you know Rumsfeld cooks for him now? He bakes a heck of a game hen. Dick has invited me to go hunting after.
