w124 VERSUS w140

Ok, I think I may have narrowed my search down to the following:

1993–1995 300E

1993–1995 E320

1991–1993 300SE

1991–1993 300SEL

1993–1998 S320

....and if I find a really nice one, a 300CE

The ones in bold are my preference, but as it stands... looks like I dig the M104 motor. But it's more than that. I am just about in love with the styling of these generations. Classy and modern, refined inside and out. Timeless. Now combine these traits with the power and reliability of the fantastically popular M104, and you are presented with the first real Mercedes-Benz outside of glow plugs and conversion kits. IMO.

Now, if anyone sees a reason why me and one of these cars should not be joined together in holy matrimony, speak now.. or forever hold your peace.

PowerPig has a nice M104 300CE24 Sportline he was talking about selling a while back. AFAIK, he still has it...in VA. It's pictured in one of his threads iirc.

Do you like the color green?

I believe I've seen that thread.

FWIW, I love the color of money. However, in a perfect world, my next car would be black. MMmm.

1993–1995 300E- They quite making the 300E in favor of the E320 in 1993. Updated the looks. Good car, but doesn't look as good, or goes as fast as the E320.

1993–1995 E320 1994-1995 were the years of the W124 E320. Excellent cars. Probably your best choice of the bunch. Look for ones with service records that have already had the wiring harness, Head gasket, and evaporator replaced. If its higher than 175k you'll have to start thinking about the transmission as well.

1991–1993 300SE- Are you talkin' W126? Th3 300SE-SEL were made from 1986-1991. Another great choice, but once again, look for service records.

1991–1993 300SEL: Same as above

1993–1998 S320: Beautiful car, but complete money pits. Far more complicated car, harder or more expensive to work on.

In 1993, the W124 chassis went to the M104 engine in the gas models.

The version with the 2.8 liter M104 engine was correctly badged as 300E 2.8.

The version with the 3.2 liter M104 engine was badged as 300E. I have no idea why they didn't badge this as 300E 3.2 (to be consistent), or even as 320E, as they did in the rest of the world.

Since this engine is the same as 1994-1995 E320's, I have no idea why you think 1993 300E (3.2) models aren't as fast as 1994-1995 E320's.

What 1993 cars didn't get is the updated hood with the integrated grill, and the Euro-look headlights (they are not real Euro's). The treatment of the trunk lid is a little different, as well as the tail lamps and front corners.

The S320's are IMO terribly underpowered.

Coming from a diesel I didn't find them to bad. If money is no object than get the V12 by all means, the M120 pulls like a freight train when you stomp on it at 100.
