Venus Moon Occultation

There was an occultation of Venus by the Moon this morning. Anybody see it?

No. Moon was too low on the eastern horizon for me. Houses in the way. No doubt there will be images and vid's on the web soon enough.

This is one picture from spaceweather.

Probably the coolest part is that they look identical...except one is much bigger. The last few months when ever I have kids look through the telescope at Venus, they say.."All I see is the moon!?!" just seconds after I told them they are looking at Venus. ;)

Mistress 04-22-2009 04:33 PM

i was waiting for you to make an appearance....with photos.

dannym 04-23-2009 10:30 AM

So that's what that was.

Really neat pictures. I hope I'm around to see the next one in 2029.

First things first. :P Venus has a transit of the sun in 2012. Obviously one would need a filter to observe it.
