Why won't the CD play in the car ?

I won a very neat home made CD at a dance the other night, and it won't play in the car, but it will play on the home setup. What in the heck is THAT about,,,, never had it happen before.

Depends on the age of the CD player. Many of the older models won't recognize ones burned in a PC.

Could be that the CD was burned in the mp3 format, and the car CD player cannot read it. I'd probably try to copy the CD to your drive, and then burn it to a CD. I think most burners will write in the format the older players can recognize (.au I think).

What CD/Change player are you using in the car?

Some units, including the Mercedes branded Alpine, can be persnickety about home burned CD's, playing some but not others.

Have just tried it in the 2000 E320, but what you all are saying is probably right. Will try the duplication on my computer and give it a try. Thanks a bunch.

I know that many earlier CD players didn't have powerful enough lasers to create an accurate reflection from a PC burned CD. We had one at work like that.

The other problem may be that the CD wasn't "finished" - apparently, if the originator of the CD fails to "finish" the disc properly, it will play fine in the machine it is being "composed in" but won't play anywhere else.

Other problem may be the compatibility issue the others mentioned above.

Use the method that works best with your car/computer setup you have at home...rip the CD to your workstation, dump the tunes to the HD, then burn your own.

At least, you'll find out if there are any other problems that just happened to pop up and may not be related to the CD itself.

Unless the unit is taken to a small electronics repair facility and the laser is cranked up

Try burning the CD at like 4x, might help, might not...

What is better burning at 16x or 4x? Any why?

Thanks

Some chuckelhead in an electronics class I signed up for, in highschool, stated that burning at a slower speed gave greater depth to the laser's ingravement on the CD. I remember him saying something about that when my moms grand am wouldnt play burn CD's. Still wouldnt play burn ones at 4x either.

I have no clue, in my neon with it's OEM cd player, it worked at 4x. It would not work with ones burnt at 32x. 4x was the magic number for me, but i don't know anything anyways. Could be a fluke, but It's worth a try. You've only got an hour of burn time to loose...
