paypal problem

How do I deny a payment I got from ebay via paypal? I specifically said in the add that only cash would be accepted. The seller for whatever reason decided to paypal me, but we talked about it over the phone and he is bringing cash.

Now how does he get his money back out of pay pal? I can't deny the payment, and I havn't accepted it either.

I didn't even remember I had a pay pal account until right now. Its total BS they want $10 as a transfer fee, F them. I'm not linking my bank accounts up to the internet, no way.

If you log into your PayPal account, is there an "Issue Refund" link visible on the details page for the payment?

Did the buyer issue the payment from his Paypal account or a bank account?

If so, you don't need to accept the payment.........it's already in your account automatically.

If you do a full refund of the amount, all fees are also refunded.

Hi, My name is Hatterasguy, and I live in 1900. :D :D ;)

Hate to break it to you, but all your accounts are in online systems right this very moment. ;) Everything is stored in data centers now.

I've been using paypal for over 11 years....only had one issue, and their "fraud investigative team" had it solved and fixed in like 2 days.

You're waaay too paranoid.

If Hattie's selling something to be picked up locally by the buyer (e.g., the unwanted cap from his new-to-him truck), then it makes perfectly good sense for him to take the payment in cash rather than through PayPal.

If he doesn't have a practical need to link his PayPal account to a bank account - and I suspect that Hattie doesn't perceive such a need - then more power to him!

That's the correct way to do it. You won't loose any fees that way and he'll get 100% of the money back.

Pay me the $10 BS fee, cash in person costs me nothing.

OK I'll try that, my paypal account isn't hooked up to any of my bank accounts so I don't know where the money is...

I accepted the payment, than I got the issue refund button which I did. So the guy should have his full payment back.

Can't you format your ebay listing so that it can't take Paypal?

It's easy enough to eliminate paypal from an ebay account. The only negative, I suppose, is that most sellers there only accept paypal, and it's not cheap for them either.

Paypal is very handy; the best way to use it is to have it linked to a small checking account only - never a credit card or major account.

Better yet - link it to a new checking account, wait a few months, then close it. I'm going on 5 years with no open checking account tied to my PayPal account. They never seem to reverify what you sign up with.

I'm not concerned about linking PayPal to credit cards, as I've full control over what PayPal does with the link. If they ever yanked funds from the credit card, I'd simply dispute the charge as unauthorized. The only down side being, that PayPal closes your account if you do so...but that's better than being out $$.

Why go thru the hassle of opening another account? You just need 1 checking account - although most of us have forgotten how to write checks by now - and 1 money market account that you can transfer funds between the two, and have done with it. (A checking account should have minimal funds anyway). Obviously this is apart from your portfolio money.

I understand your view on a credit card link, but a dispute can be long and painful.

I understand cash for a local sale, I'd probably do that too.

But saying stuff about "don't want my account linked online" and such paranoia, makes you sound like a proud AARP member. :D ;)

An eBay seller doesn't necessarily have to accept PayPal, but they've messed about with policies enough during the past couple of years that the details have become more complicated:

Accepted Payments Policy.

For many categories, sellers are required to accept one of the eBay-approved electronic payment methods.
