Can people NOT cook for themselves? Is it SO BAD that they cant "feed their family" with anything OTHER then fried chicken???

I've only been there once in my life, in Maryland.....when I was visiting Washington DC....my friend and I got back late in the evening so we picked up some chicken from one near our campground. It was pretty good, but a heart attack in a box like most fast food. I can't believe those people all "need" it and seem to be: running around like chickens with their heads cut off because their grease pit is closed.
